Need a dose of happiness? Talk to a senior citizen. Re-post 2018.

After New Years, I found an article in the New York Times about happiness in older folks, such as those in their ’70’s and ’80’s.  The idea is that older people are often happier and wiser than those who are younger.  Click on the link below.   It is very inspiring.  If that doesn’t work, go to NYTimes.com and do a search.

I sent a copy of the Times piece by John Leland to a few people including Jean Bredin who spends almost every weekend with her aged mother in Fort Lee.  Jean and her Mom love the visits, and Jean responded to my email:

Thank you Paul!
As you know, I spend every weekend with my 97 yr old Mother!!!
She’s doing good despite some aches and pains.
Here we are New Years Eve waiting for the Ball to fall…
We couldn’t find party hats, so I made two out of newspaper.
Her days are regimented.
Get up, make the bed, make oatmeal and half a grapefruit listening to her Englebert Humperdink cd., do Jumble puzzle, reminisce, eat dinner that always includes a sweet potato, looks forward to Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune while having a bowl of Haggen Das vanilla swiss almond ice cream!

I love the time we spend together.

And in a later conversation, Jean told me that she has such a good time with her Mom who, Jean says, remembers so many wise thoughts and happy memories.  What a wonderful experience for them both—giving each other love.

This song was written by George Harrison.  It is “Give me love, give me peace on earth”    This recording is by Jeff Lynne live at the Concert for George.
