Boswell Park is on the south side of Ocean Grove. It is elevated above the street level and is near Clark and Cookman Avenues. It is a respite for that part of town where homes tend to be close together. The park is very plain, but it is beloved in the neighborhood.
I suspect that no one photographs over there; thus today’s portrait.
This park appears melancholy. There is no landscaping. Most visitors do not know its Boswell name. There is a lesser known name of “Park Heights.” Some denigrate it by referring to it as “Poop Park.”
There is a small Christian shrine. This was erected by a Grover citizen. It appears as a ray of hope in a barren place.
Yet the Park seems to fit in at the south end of the Grove which has a special feel–reminding me of a sleepy quirky village where I expect artists, characters, and musicians might live.
Officially Boswell Park is owned by the CMA, but Neptune is responsible for its care.
Like many parks in the Grove there seem to be no events held there. Parks should be places which are welcoming and where citizens and visitors can share cultural experiences, spiritual and peaceful moments, small scale diversions, and where children can play together.
How about setting up concerts by soloists or small groups every Sunday at 2 pm weather permitting? Form a group–the Boswell Park Commission?
Can anyone from that area vouch for what goes on there that enriches the neighborhood?
IVY BENSON AND HER ALL GIRLS ORCHESTRA from her album A Tree In The Meadow. “I’m in the mood for love.” This group entertained the troops during WWII. Ivy soloed on alto sax.

My husband and I have lived across this park for over 20 years. It’s like our front yard. I love seeing the trees flower in spring and change color in fall. Our cats take walks with us there and sit on the benches late at night in the summer after the crowds have gone. Kids play football there and dogs play fetch. Someone even put up a zip line this past summer and kids had fun with that. Sometimes I see people having picnics there. It is a peaceful oasis. 🙂
