Pink bagels just on this day. 2/14/23. At the Hot Bagel Bakery you can watch the bakers in action. Their methods are authentic and they have the chewiest exteriors in town. Their bagels are too fat, but I just “scoop” them, and all is wonderful. I won’t eat a pink bagel for Valentine’s Day or a green one for St. Patricks Day.

The Hot Bagel Bakery at #67 Monmouth Road (near West Park Ave) in Oakhurst opens at 5 am daily. It is 15 minutes by car from Ocean Grove. Just get onto Monmouth Rd in Interlaken (across from Asbury) or else take 35 N. and head east on West Park to the intersection with Monmouth Rd. The bakery is right there. If you don’t like their coffee, there is a Rook across the street.
I guess that pink bagels are Kosher because this bakery is strictly Kosher. I was there at 7 am today where the workers know my order by heart. One college girl who works behind the counter greets me with, “How’s your wife?” and “How’s your dog?”
For years this bakery is chosen as #1 for bagels in Monmouth County. They know their customers because they have challahs on Fridays and bialys on Sundays.
I used to proclaim that Wegmans had the best bagels, but during the pandemic they slipped from their authentic bagel baking in-house to something that is OK but not superb.
