I wasn’t enthused about watching the Grammys because I knew that I would hate most of it. But I also knew that I would love some of it. However I didn’t watch it live.
So I browsed around on the Net after it was over to see if I could find something I could enjoy. But almost everything was shown in little segments because if they can’t monetize a musical presentation then everyone could see it for free after the show was over.
But I did catch a glimpse of a 22 year old jazz singer named Samara Joy and I really liked what I saw. So I looked and looked and found some photographs, but they were purposely set up so that no evil blogger could post her picture for free. But I was able to get one photo and I won’t reveal how I did it.
Then I found an Internet post about her and I heard a few moments of a favorite song of mine (below) and I was able to buy it on Apple Tunes.
Samara Joy is from New York City. I have no information yet as to how she developed as a refined performer.
Her first album is called Linger Awhile (release in 2021.)
But her big news now is that she won a Grammy for “Best New Artist.” And, believe it or not, she beat out “Wet Leg.”
The Grammy statue , as you can see, is a golden model of a phonograph invented by Thomas Edison in 1877. See post below.
The name Grammy comes from the name “gramophone” which emerged later as a device that used discs. (like records) instead of cylinders.
Samara Joy has a lovely voice and she seems to be recalling some of the great jazz singers of the past including Ella, Nancy, Eydie, Carmen and others.
The song below is from her album and was written in 1952. And she loves to perform jazz standards. Hail to the gods of the great American Song Book.
Among the greats who covered this song: Eartha Kitts, Nancy Wilson, Julie London and 16 others.
Here is “Guess Who I Saw Today,” and we will hear more of her on Blogfinger.
