We had a contest, and the question was, “In what Jersey Shore Town is the Red Bank Woman’s club?” We’ll, we have a winner!!!!
Sam Hill correctly identified the Red Bank Woman’s Club which is on Broad Street, and it is a beautiful historic building acquired by the RBWC in 1921. It is the old Anthony Reckless mansion, and so those frisky Red Bank goils call themselves “Reckless Women.”
Anthony Reckless was a VIP in his day. He was a State Senator, and this property was his “estate.”
If you look up the Red Bank Woman’s club you will see that they are engaged in a variety of good deeds in their community. Interestingly, their name says “Woman’s” not “Women’s” even though the state seal above says “Women’s”. What does that mean? Who knows?
Eileen and I walked by a few days ago while heading to the Red Bank Diner—very good and old fashioned. I had a short stack. That’s true! On their walls are photographs from the 1950’s. Here is one below:

This is a classic marching band from the ’50’s. Reminds me of my high school band. The musicians look like crossing guards while the girls show some leg. Red Bank Diner
If any of you have never strolled around Red Bank, you should go. Take Rt 35 north and continue on Broad Street after Newman Springs Road. Walk around the shops especially near Front St. The Basie Theater is there along with Tiffany’s. (DANGER AHEAD!) and a Rolex dealer. There are also some fine restaurants, and on Front Street are some Greenwich Village style eateries. There is parking.
Sam Hill wins a Jack Bredin “Flag Day” print. It’s the same print that hangs in the office of the Monmouth/Ocean DEA and in many law enforcement offices around the country.
As for the contest, Kevin Chambers also wins, but he doesn’t get a prize because he is a professional historian–formerly President of the OG Hysterical Society. He also would win every contest, so he has been disqualified from winning prizes here. We will contact Sam Hill.
And don’t forget that Pegi Costantino of OG has resurrected the Ocean Grove Woman’s Club. (yes, it is woman’s,) and Miss Pegi is Chief Woman.
JOHN LENNON:

Salome: I disagree. In terms of evolving demographics, geography, size, socioeconomic factors, cost of housing and life styles, these two towns are similar. The biggest differences are the Camp Meeting Association and the Neptune governance.
If you surveyed those who live in the Grove and in B. Beach, the similarities would prove that comparisons are appropriate.
Thank you, but what is its name and address?
Check out the In-between Cafe located on English Plaza for breakfast if you a have a chance. This was our favorite breakfast place when we lived in Red Bank.
