The present Day’s dates from 1904 when Victorian architecture was viewed as overly frilly, and the wood ornamentation was probably starting to decay:

“The front of the house, facing on Pitman Avenue, will be cut off three feet. The porches, first and second story, will be extended seven feet or more. Upstairs the interior partitions will be torn out, new stairways built and the dimensions of the living apartments materially enlarged. The verandas on the west side of the garden will be widened at least eighteen inches. Ten large Colonial columns will support the front and side porches.
The inside eastern wall of the garden will be rebuilt and will be finished in the Colonial pilaster style. The sectional partitions, and wherever light is needed, will be supplied with plate glass with metal bars. Rows of electric lights will stud the woodwork throughout the garden. The arrangement of the garden comprehends a roof to enclose the whole place.
Mr. Day will expend about $3,000 in these improvements.”—OGT (22 Oct. 1904).
