The Tuesday after Labor Day always seemed like magic. On Monday the town was still crowded, but you wake up on Tuesday and its empty, and that is a bitter-sweet feeling.
If you live at the Jersey Shore you will feel a sense of relief because by mid-August you are ready for the “Bennies” to be gone. You can now park near your home and you can come and go without concerns.
But not so fast…..in 4 days the Grove will be inundated by a mob of tourists, by the thousands, brought here by the Ocean Grove Area Chamber of Commercials. On Saturday morning you will hear a giant sucking sound as the cars stream in and as parking mayhem resumes. All this for a Giant Flea Market where you can crowd Ocean Pathway, spread germs and spend $17.00 for a sandwich.
The Ocean Grove bakery was lit up this morning as if it wanted to put on a happy face.
It was raining lightly, and a few people were downtown.
Inside the shop, a woman peered out at me as I composed this image.
