There was a big mistake made when the Stokes statue was installed. The base was slightly rectangular and the granite company inscribed “Stokes” on the wrong side. After it was found the statue would not fit, it was decided to rotate the base 90 degrees. After some discussion, the name was placed on the front and that on the side was removed forming a recessed panel that was copied on the other side.
