WASSUP?? Ocean Grove August 5, 2022

a.  Don’t let mosquitoes breed near your house.  These bugs breed in standing water, so patrol your property and get rid of water puddles even if just in a candy wrapper.  This includes bird baths and gutters.

Once they hatch, they will hang around your home and they will bring their friends. They can transmit diseases such as Eastern  Equine encephalitis and West Nile virus.

I don’t think that Neptune sprays for mosquitoes. We did a poll a few years go, and over 60% of respondents were in favor of spraying in OG. And  if you call Neptune DPW, they won’t call you back.

You could call your favorite Neptune Committeeman or woman, but they likely don’t know where OG is located.

b.  Tell your friends to not ride bicycles  down our streets against the traffic. This is common on our risky business streets.

And if they go with the traffic, beware of doors opening suddenly in front to them.  There is so much traffic, erratic driving, and parking issues, you must be careful–or put off bike riding until September.

c.  Trash talk:  You can put garbage out in plastic bags, but you cannot do so with recyclables–they need cans. You can put your cans and bags out in the hatched areas.  And the recyclables do not have to be in those green cans.  As for garbage can size, it seems that DPW is happy with those 32 gallon pails–I found them at Home Depot for about $65.00.

d. Grass talk:  You can substitute Zoysia for regular grass–it is very tough and resistant to abuse like draught.  It is great for grassy strips.  Zoysia  turns brown in winter.

And you can use artificial turf around your house.  It needs no mowing and it drains dog urine.  It is allowed–I checked with Bernie.   But better double check on this one.

Recreational marijuana will be coming to Neptune.    Can they open a shop in OG? Currently no one can sell alcohol in the Grove, but that is a blue law left over from the days when the CMA ran the town.  And you can sell alcohol in Neptune, so why not change that ordinance and allow alcohol and marijuana sales in the Grove.

There is no good reason why OG should be treated differently from Neptune. Double standards should be eliminated where OG is concerned.

“I don’t know who planned it
It’s a double standard
Going on since time began
My oh my
Don’t you even try
To make sense of all you see..”

Agreed on wrong-way bikers. I sometimes tell them or point them in the right direction when they pass me on my bike.

The idea that because of the potential for dooring bikers means bikes should be left at home is a classic NJ “dashboard perspective” (view from behing the steering wheel of a car). In 41 of 50 US states, it is illegal to door someone, but not in NJ— that law seems to always be unpolular with those who drive the agenda.

As Grovers who don’t own a car, and not alone in being so, we don’t have the luxury of leaving the bike at home.

I propose instead that all those using cars always look before they open the door.
