A couple of years ago, a very large frog made its way from Wesley Lake into our small OG pond. We didn’t know until there was a noisy scuffle in the backyard: The frog was fighting with a bird, and the frog won. The bird was pronounced dead.
I scooped it up with a net and escorted it back to the Lake. Haven’t seen it since.
In fact, Fletcher Lake has at times harbored monsters.
“A twenty-pound snapping turtle was taken in Fletcher Lake on Monday night by a Mr. Applegate of Bradley Beach.”—OGT 28 May 1910
“We recently spent five days vacationing here. During that time, we witnessed the apparent attack and drowning of a duck by a snapping turtle.”–OGT 11 Jul. 1991.
