SOUNDTRACK: Miles Davis. “Stella by Starlight” This great jazz standard was written in the 1940’s and has been covered and recorded by all the jazz greats.
This is gorgeous. Every note Miles plays is meaningful. The high note that ends his opening solo, that leads into Coltrane’s entrance, used to thrill me when I first heard it as a teenager. It still does. The Quintet is Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. I can’t remember the name of the album.
