The poll results will be updated here by the Editor. You can see the current results when you vote. We will stop the count by the morning of May 5.
As of THURSDAY 5/5/22 7:00 pm we have a total of 86 votes:
40=YES and 46=NO. (47% YES 53% NO) POLL CLOSED.
At Blogfinger we have a strong belief that our poll result is bogus.
So it shouldn’t be given credence. Perhaps the Township poll coming up in June will be more accurate.
We have to see how it will be done. This may be the last Blogfinger poll. —-PG

Editor’s note: In 2019 the Better Parking Alliance concluded an ambitious poll about OG’s parking situation. It received an impressive 622 participants and was analyzed every which way but loose. They covered all the angles and reported all the opinions, but in the end, they accomplished nothing.
Blogfinger has written many articles about this subject over the years, but the main facts I know are that we have a chronic problem and it is getting worse.
We also know, based on polling, that most residents want permit parking, but there are a myriad of differences regarding how to accomplish it.
Yet many towns have succeeded. The BPA said in 2019: “69% of respondents believe residents should receive a resident parking permit.” Our prior poll revealed a similar result.
Keep in mind that our polls are only indicators, because cheating is possible. And that applies to this one.
In our opinion, the problem can only be solved if the supply side of the equation is dealt with, namely reducing the flood of tourists crossing our borders.
So, after the June Township redundant poll is completed, all the involved hotshot experts will still be left sucking their thumbs. And that was the case even after the CMA paid a small fortune for professionals to do a parking study—what happened to them?
And there’s more. The parking problem is not only about parking—it is monumentally about quality of life for our citizens.
As far as the June poll is concerned, all the players have a selfish ax to grind including the CMA, Neptune Township, the Home Groaners and the Chamber of Commercials. The only ones who should get priorities, and rightfully so, are we-the-people: the taxpayers/residents of Ocean Grove.
Did you hear that Neptune township?
BECK:
Why would a resident vote “NO?”
I suspect that some of our poll voters are not residents or have some conflict of interest, such as a resident who owns a business in town or someone who is worried about the CMA’s interests.
Then there are those here who earn income from rentals who would see a “yes” as decreasing the demand for OG rentals.
Also a vote might subsequently turn from yes to no or visa versa depending on the details which would emerge from subsequent discussions.

Parking permits can be a bit complicated and the devil is in the details. Will OG be divided into multiple residential parking zones? If a resident is prohibited from parking in other zones, things could be more difficult. How many permits will be issued per household? What areas will be set aside for visitors? One needs to vote on an actual plan and not just a general idea. P. S. I come to OG by train.

Thanks David. The town has already gone around the block on this, and there are even more variations on a theme.
Coming by train is a great idea. I will try it even though I live on Mt. Hermon Way.

It occurs to me that the Township poll should include only citizens who are residents of Ocean Grove.
Our Blogfinger poll won’t be accurate because anyone can vote. So it is useful as a rough indicator of preferences.
Second homers should be included in the Nepune poll. Even though they can’t vote here, they do pay property taxes.
