Some say that this unusual movie, Licorice Pizza, is the best of the year. It is a “coming of age” film set in California’s San Fernando Valley in 1973.
It stars two young actors who have never been in a movie before. There are guest appearances by some big Hollywood stars including Bradley Cooper and Sean Penn, and it is marvelously directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (“Boogie Nights”).
The film is especially noteworthy because it has no plot. It a unique collage of scenes about the lives of a boy and a girl who gradually fall in love; that part is standard Hollywood fare.
The cinematography is wonderful with scenes in the vicinity of Los Angeles. Licorice Pizza is streaming now on Amazon, but there is a fee.
