On the 12th of February we were at the Edison Estate (Ft. Myers, Fla) yearly plant sale. We posted two articles about it.
The sale is noted for its exotic species. Eileen was determined to get something, so she found a small potted tropical flowering plant “The Pink Quill” which comes from the rain forests of Ecuador.
She knew that its blooms don’t last long. She left it sitting on a window sill in the kitchen. There it would receive the filtered light that it requires. This succulent requires little water.
Later we found out that it can live attached to a tree or grow from the ground. Eileen plans to ship it home to the Grove.
Today it began to bloom with a pink quill and a purple flower.
Definitely not The Little Shop of Horrors
PAUL SIMON comments on color photography:
I had 6 winning color photographs featured in the Pfizer International Calendar contest as well as a book cover. Everyone of those winners was shot with Kodachrome color slide film.
So I can sympathize with Paul Simon in this song. Digital photography has caught up with Kodachrome in its own way, but those engineers who create color sensors also are able to create a particular look, and the look of Kodachrome is still in the hearts of photographers from that era.
My color images since 2009 have been made with a Leica M-9 camera. Leica produces its own color look as do other brands such as Canon. The new iPhone 13 is supposed to contain superior photographs, but the jury is out on that question.
Up to now I have tried not to use my iPhone for serious imagery, unless it is an emergency. That’s because phone cameras photos cannot compare to serious cameras.
