The best photographs tell a story or convey emotions–even if the topic is sad, as for a war photographer where there may be much to appreciate as a work of art.

The solitary hanger seen above tells a sad story, but  the visuals cause  us to react emotionally and perhaps to suggest hope. After all, there is one  hanger— not none.

This image taps into the human need to find life and beauty in the worst situations.

    There are books written by survivors of concentration camps. They survived because they managed to find some ray of hope to stay alive in their awful circumstances. One is by Viktor Frankl. who wrote “Man’s Search For Meaning.”
