A simple, easy-to-prescribe pill that treats covid-19 could be coming soon.
  • An experimental version cut the risk of hospitalization and death in half, pharmaceutical company Merck says, and it plans to ask for emergency authorization as soon as possible.
  • What it does: The capsules, taken twice a day for five days, are supposed to keep mild and moderate cases from turning into something worse.
  • What this means: This kind of treatment could make a huge difference, especially in parts of the world where it’s hard to get vaccines.
