Here we are again at the Lakes Park Farmers Market in Fort Myers, Fla. I am always on the lookout there for good, innovative and fresh food, but also for faces to capture for Blogfinger (“Faces at the Farmers Market” series.).
There is an authentic French bakery in town, and they bring a truck to the market with wonderful French breads, croissants, pastries and special items such as apple strudel.
Today I tried an almond croissant, and it was excellent with coffee (“Pete’s,” recommended by Joyce Klein of Mt. Hermon Way who drinks coffee till it’s coming out of her ears…so who else would you trust to suggest coffee at Costco?)
As I approached the truck, the second thing I noticed was the French girl behind the counter. She has a delightful Parisian accent and a “c’est si bon” smile. I tried some basic French on her, but, although she was amused, it fell flat like a flagel from the NY bagel stand.
Eileen got a plain croissant. No matter what we get, she chooses the most basic version. I like “everything” bagels, while she likes plain. I like rare steaks and she likes well done. I like cold, she likes hot. So that’s life: “C’est vrai.”

Makes perfect sense Blogfinger. Eileen is obviously the Everything Bagel of your relationship and you my friend – are the plain croissant.
Editor’s note: Thanks Tom for that culinary analysis. It is said that opposites attract. Maybe so, but the trick is to find common ground. In the case of bagels, regardless of the type, they all have a hole in the middle and they are all delicious toasted with cream cheese….Paul
