WASSUP?? Ocean Grove, NJ August 16, 2021

August 16, 2021 by Blogfinger

a.  Census 2020.      Population:   3,323.  Median age is 60.4.  Percent female= 61%.   Median household income is $65,078.  ($86,751 in New Jersey)

This should dispel the idea that only rich folks live here.    The white population is 91.6%–Hispanic 5%; Black 2.2%

There are 11 registered sex offenders in the Grove.  What has the Township or the Home Groaners done to keep our people informed about this?

And what about “God’s Square Mile?”   Our land area is .36  mi square. Evidently the CMA is counting part of the ocean as they promote the slogan.

b.   It is now August 16 which would mark the 3rd week in August, traditionally a slow-down month in terms of crowds.  Many families have gone home to get ready for school, so parking should be easier, only to spike for Labor Day weekend.

On the other hand, given all the escapees who are in town and the most recent COVID scare,  they may be hanging around at least until the end of the month if not indefinitely.

c.  Illumination night was held on August 14, Saturday.  Did any of you attend?  If so, please send us a report to Blogfinger@verizon.net. We will not use your name.  A photo would be good.

Can you tell us if this was a true secular community event or was it religious in nature?  Its design has changed from the original resurgent  secular event of 2014 which was brought back by Deb Cuddhy.

Stephen Goldfinger of Blogfinger stopped by the next day and found some residual “elaborately strung” lights still hanging around:

d.  We have had a perhaps undeserved resurgence of interest regarding parking woes.

Some have been stirring the pot over at NextDoor:

But there are a few new-found elements which  have appeared  such as the unfortunate  attacks on Coneheads and a few new twists regarding “parking games people play.” We never seem to exhaust the possibilities:

Here’s one showing what a  Days Ice Cream obsessive yen can bring about:
