Notice how Asbury Park has left this portion of beach alone at their southern-most end near the Ocean Grove border.
In the foreground is a small fence-posted work of modern art. Click the image to see it better. What does it mean? It is part of an art-loving community that has placed art all over the city.
To me it is a message that Asbury Park communicates with everyone by posting pubic art, and although it is small, it is symbolic and it sits there in relief from the open sandy beach area contradicted by that high rise which has changed their skyline forever.
Even the building on the left cries out to “leave us alone…keep the air, the light, and the open space.” It is a plea to keep the door open and keep this location free of Long Branch style high-rise culture.
And what will this space say to the forthcoming Ocean Grove North End commercial phony mess.
Wouldn’t it be beautiful if this area of AP were to communicate with the OG North End, currently barren, to create a public park–a miniature Central Park for all to enjoy along the ocean which is earmarked by precedents that would leave the ocean and the beach for recreation and conservation.
