a. Don’t forget to patrol your properties for standing water. Even a candy wrapper can be used to promote mosquito breeding, and when they hatch they tend to hang around their birthplace.
b. Have you noticed that Neptune Township is using public funds to publicize events sponsored by the OG Chamber of Commerce.
That organization is a private group that promotes private businesses in and around the Grove. We assume that Neptune collects fees from the CC from events such as the two Giant Flea Markets.
Since we residents are burdened by those mega-events, how about revealing to the public how much money Neptune gets, and how much money is put back into the community? Or is Neptune merely exploiting the historic town of Ocean Grove in addition to the Chamber of Commercials.
How many small-town USA events does the Chamber sponsor in the Grove? The answer is none, and that includes the useless British Car Show.
And they have never brought small-town USA type events here designed just for the residents, yet they avidly promote their businesses so the locals can help them in the off-season. Here’s a suggestion: Live porch music as they do in Asbury Park.
And when you do the math, what does Neptune Township offer the residents of OG, but here is a sentence from Neptunetownship.,org bragging about how much is offered the public at Shark River Hills: ” Bathing, fishing, crabbing, boating, and birding are all available here, as well as several neighborhood parks and a nature trail which highlights historic, environmental, and scenic stops” And they have a marina and a yacht club there as well.”
Can you hear the sucking sound of tourists flooding our town for Chamber events in May, June, July, Sept and Oct?
c. Don’t forget that at 9 pm on Saturday July 17, the CMA will light a bonfire on the beach. Isn’t that fire a potential tinder box?
Talk about double standards, the OG Fire Department asked the Civil War re-enactors to leave OG because of the fire risk of tent-side camp fires on the Pathway. The purpose of the bonfire is to celebrate their all afternoon “Praisefest” of live music in the Boardwalk Pavilion.
d. Don’t forget to mark your calendar: Thursday July 29: The final Summer Stars Classical concert. It is called Orchestra Finale!
