HealthDay (7/7, Preidt) reports that investigators have “published a comprehensive review of research on eating habits and heart disease that provides consistent evidence that eating less salt and animal proteins and more plant-based foods is associated with a lower risk of heart disease.” The findings were published in Cardiovascular Research.
U.S. death rates from cancer continued to decline from 2014 to 2018, report says
CNN (7/8, Langmaid) reports, “US death rates from cancer continued to decline from 2014 to 2018…according to” the Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer.
ABC News (7/8, Schumaker) reports, “The decline in cancer death rates held true for both men and women of all racial and ethnic groups.” The data “showed a decrease in death rates among 11 of the 19 most common cancers in men and 14 of the 20 most common cancers in women.” The “overall decline translates into an average 2.2% cancer death rate decrease per year for men and an average 1.7% decrease per year for women.”
COVID-19 vaccines likely saved almost 280K American lives, study concludes
CNN (7/8, McPhillips) reports that COVID-19 “vaccines saved hundreds of thousands of lives and prevented more than a million hospitalizations in the United States, according to new estimates from researchers at Yale University and the Commonwealth Fund.” They concluded that by June’s end, “there would have been about 279,000 additional deaths due to [COVID-19] – about 46% more than there were – and as many as 1.25 million additional hospitalizations if there were no vaccinations.”
