Prehistoric monster photographed in the Camelia River (Ft. Myers, Fla.)

February 5, 2021 by Blogfinger

This iguana was in our backyard. It is a fast swimmer. I was lucky to get this shot. Feb 1, 2021. Paul Goldfinger.

This green iguana is probably a male. Its descendants go back thousands of years. It was on the bank but then jumped into the water as I approached.  It is a florescent green with a striped tail. Size is about 1 1/2 feet, but they can get much bigger.

You can eat them…if you can catch them–this one is a fast swimmer. Mature iguanas are herbivores mostly, but they can eat mammals.

Here is an iguana which I photographed in Cape Coral.  It is about 3 feet long.  It has teeth.  Iguanas have become a problem in Florida.  You can get paid for killing them.

Paul Goldfinger. Cape Coral canal. Undated.

It brings to mind the Academy Award winning movie “The Shape of Water.” Here is a trailer.
