I love the pic from circa 1960. My mother lead the charge to make Ocean Grove our summer vacation spot. I think that our first visit was for a week in 1964. I was going on 5 at the time. We rented an apartment on Atlantic Ave.

Over the following 15 years, OG became near and dear to my heart. When I moved to NH we kind of lost touch because of the distance, but a later career move brought me back to PA and I looked forward to 3 things – PA Dutch Birch Beer, tasty cakes, and visits to Ocean Grove!

It was great fun to share my experiences in the Grove with my kids. Although they spent relatively little time there, they have fond memories of enjoying the beach and walking around town.

I first became aware of your blog during hurricane Sandy and have periodically dropped by to see what was new. Ocean Grove is a different place in so many ways, but my connection with the town remains strong. Thanks for taking the time to share your impressions and for sparking so many fond memories.

As a resident of Maine now, I am once again far removed from the Jersey Shore, but it is great to hear what is going on. For many years, we stayed at a small place called Whitehall, on Pitman ave. I can remember sitting on the second floor porch, writing cards to my friends back home.

I also remember getting frozen custard on the boardwalk just outside of the North End Hotel. And, of course, breakfast at the Homestead was a highlight of our vacations. I could probably spend the rest of the afternoon digging up memories, but it is time to get back to work!

Thanks again for your continued effort with Blogfinger.

Editor’s note: Thanks Jason…good to hear from you. We have had a number of people reminiscing about the Homestead Restaurant. Go to our search box at the top right of our homepage and type in “Homestead”—Paul @Blogfinger.net
