Another rally will take place tomorrow in Asbury, and the expected crowd could be as large as 5,000.
Law enforcement is hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. Supposedly the event is organized by the Black Lives Matter group.
The event is expected to begin at 3 pm at LIbrary Park on First Avenue near Cookman Avenue. Or it may start at Convention Hall. It will turn onto Main Street and it is expected to wind up at the Asbury Park Police Station which is adjacent to the train station on Main Street.
There is a curfew of 8 pm in Asbury, and the police will be scattering the crowd at 7 pm, but if the last demonstration is a role model for this one, there may be mayhem after 8 pm.
Asbury Police will have assistance from other sources, but not the National Guard. The police presence will be well prepared
The press has done a poor job of covering this event. We have no reason to believe that the crowd will spill over into the Grove, but you never know what to expect in these situations.
Other recent rallies showed very poor adherence to corona preventive measures.
Let’s hope that this doesn’t turn into a wild time with out-of-control “demonstrators.”
