APP: “Roughly 30.3 million people have filed for unemployment aid in the six weeks since nonessential businesses were ordered closed to stem the spread of the outbreak.” Governor Murphy wants to “re-open” the Jersey economy.
Currently the state’s economy is severely depressed, and some critics blame the Gov.
COVID19.nj.gov/ “Gov. Phil Murphy has been clear that the state’s plan for re-opening New Jersey’s economy will be data-driven. “
PhillyVoice.com: New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy unveiled a six-point plan on Monday (4/27) for reopening the large portions of the state’s economy that have been shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While a specific date for the rollout of the plan was not given, the time-frame for the start of the blueprint titled “The Road Back” should be measured in weeks, Murphy said, and how quickly it progresses depends on New Jersey residents continuing to practice social distancing.
NY Post: “We know now that 64 percent of those who have died in New York were aged over 70. Of patients hospitalized with the disease, 94 percent had underlying conditions such as obesity or diabetes.
——-The Food and Drug Administration gave emergency approval to a COVID-19 antibody test that boasts near-perfect accuracy, the company said Sunday.
“Swiss drug maker Roche said the new test, which determines whether someone had a past infection, has proven 100% accurate at detecting antibodies in the blood and 99.8% accurate at ruling out the presence of them.” It is a blood test (not finger stick.)
APP: “The novel coronavirus continues to leave a mark on the Jersey Shore.
The state on Sunday reported 24 new deaths in Monmouth and Ocean counties.”
NJ.com As of May 4, there have been 7,910 deaths in NJ. Total cases in the state are 128,269.
Monmouth County has 385 dead and 6,378 cases.
Blogfinger. On March 21, the governor announced his executive order regarding his mitigation plan for NJ, and most of that is still in effect including the “stay at home” rule for all unless your work is “essential” or that you need to get out for essential needs.
He requires that everyone stay off the roads for ordinary activities. There will be no parties or group gatherings.
All non-essential businesses are closed.
“We need you to just stay home,” Murphy said during a news briefing on Saturday at Rutgers-Newark. “We have to change our behaviors.”
“And the governor specifically urged people not to go to the Jersey Shore if they have part-time residences there.”
COVID19.NJ.GOV says that you can walk or run, but it doesn’t say that you can drive somewhere to do that, like the OG boardwalk.
“Walk, run, operate a wheelchair, or engage in outdoor activities with immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners while following best social distancing practices with other individuals, including staying six feet apart.”
So, please explain why so many people came to Ocean Grove this past weekend. What part of the Governor’s executive order don’t they understand?
And why doesn’t the Neptune PD enforce the governor’s executive order to protect the people of OG? And why doesn’t Neptune Township show any concern about the health of Grovers?
The Neptuner government has shown over and over that they have a disrespect for the rule of law—just look at the North End history, zoning missteps, RSIS parking rules, and land use abuses.
AMA Morning Report:
Bloomberg 5/1 ) reported new research indicates that “the coronavirus pandemic is likely to last as long as two years and won’t be controlled until about two-thirds of the world’s population is immune.” The report is from the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.
NJSpotlight.com:
“New Jersey hospitals are showing declines of up to 40% in the total number of patient admissions because non-COVID-19 cases are staying away in the likely mistaken belief that they will be infected by going to the hospital, health care leaders and doctors say.
“Many people with urgent medical conditions like heart attacks, strokes or acute appendicitis are avoiding going to the hospital, even when instructed by their doctors, because they fear infection with the coronavirus or because they believe the hospitals are so overwhelmed by COVID-19 patients that they don’t have the capacity to treat people with other conditions.”
Blogfinger plans to follow up on this important topic.
Bradley Beach boardwalk is now open since May 3.
NY Times:
About half of all states have now begun re-opening their economies in some significant way, introducing a pivotal new chapter. Some states have lifted stay-at-home orders or reopened businesses even though reported new cases are rising or remaining steady.
Public health experts have warned that reopening too soon could lead to a new wave of cases and deaths.
Worried about the crowded beach on first sunny warm day yesterday! Most people not wearing masks and paying little attention to social distancing especially on the boardwalk!
People are still getting sick and dying from COVID 19 in New Jersey and in Monmouth County.
