BPA. Here is a modest proposal: ban all parking on OG streets–except for residents, their relatives, and guests.

February 20, 2020 by Blogfinger

Many streets in downtown Fort Myers have no parking.  This is Dean Avenue, a cross street.   It is peak season in the area. They have driveways and garages.

This is Tropicana Park. No one can park overnight on these streets. Blogfinger photos. Feb 2020. They have car ports which hold only 2 cars.

As many of  you have noticed, Ocean Grove has few driveways and garages. So what we should do is have parking permits for every OG car on our streets.  Give each resident a few dashboard passes if their relatives or friends show up, but they cannot stay after 3 am.  If they want to stay overnight, have them park in Neptune and take a cab to your house.

Have the Chamber of Commercials and the Camp Meeting build a garage out of town  for tourists and shoppers.  And let the townspeople enjoy their town.

Form the Better Alliance to Take Back Our Town  (aka  BATBOT)

Jack. This “modest proposal” of mine (similar to Jonathan Swift’s) was a spoof (ie a parody or satire) designed to mock all the power bases in town that talk about parking but are unable to think out of the box. So I’m not surprised that you found it to be “illegal.” I guess my timing is off.

As you know, my main contribution has been to suggest cancelling those fruitless mega-events that cause much of our parking glut and negatively impact our lifestyles in the Grove.

Let’s form another BPA—the Better Planning Alliance and redefine what this town should be in this 21st century.

This illegal proposal could not be implemented by the Township Committee.

    Just check the parking study.

Oh, there is no parking study yet.

    Old-timer :

When I get my tongue out of my cheek, I will fix every one of those items in your comment.

    Thank you, the Management.

Residents, friends and guests? What about employees, what about long term (3+ months) renters, what about the beach workers (life guards, step guards & office personnel) who live out of town? When overnight visitors are banned, who will make up the $1+ million received from the State Tourism board?
