An iron lighthouse stands erect on a pristine beach.

Calusa Indians got here first; about 12,000 years ago. The Spanish came in the 18th century.   Later, the island was settled by Americans around 1820, and the lighthouse was built in 1884.   The light is now under the control of the US Coast Guard.

The chimney on the right has an osprey nest, and we will have better photos of that later.
