This was sent to Blogfinger by a reader who says that permit parking for residents works in other small towns, so why not in OG? Bloomsburg, Pa. has 14,000 residents and a vibrant downtown. It, like OG, is historic.
Other NJ towns with residential permit parking include Sea Bright, Boonton, Morristown, Hoboken, and Stone Harbor.
A residential permit, properly designed, could work in OG. Neptune needs to recognize that tax paying residents should have top priority in our town. A limited program could offer some relief during the peak months.
And, by the way, does anyone know what percent of Neptune Township tax monies come from Ocean Grove? I hear that it is out of proportion to our population. If none of you know the number, I will look into it. It should be a useful piece of information. If any of you know, please email us at Blogfinger@verizon.net.
You can vote here if your home is your primary residence and you are counted in the census. Second homers may not be able to vote here, but they can “voice their opposition” in a variety of ways including sending their opinions to Blogfinger as comments or letters to the editor.
Blogfinger:
When the tax assessor came around last summer and I complained about our ridiculous taxes, he told me we are Neptune’s cash cow. He also mentioned that a good amount of residents are unable to vote or voice any opposition because their houses are not primary residences. They are just not around when it counts.
Large taxes are the bane of Ocean Grove and I assume make up for the sizable amount of unpaid taxes in Neptune proper.
A completely unfair burden placed upon this small community.
