Mt. Prospect Cemetery. Blogfinger photo. Oct. 11, 2014. Plots still available. It’s a lovely spot, and the residents can watch the Scarlet Fliers from there. Call 908 461 7132 for the lay-away plan. Click to enlarge.
Mt. Prospect Cemetery . Founded by Wilisford Dey, 1881. Neptune Township;
Neptune Twp was created in 1879 (carved out of Ocean Twp,) and Ocean Grove was made part of it at that time. Re-post from .net, October 2014.

WYNTON MARSALIS “It’s Easy to Remember.” Marsalis studied under Phil Smith.
Henry Bennett owned the Bijou Theater chain, based in Philadelphia, as well as race horses. The first millionaire in the Neptune NJ area, his estate was the southern half of today’s Neptune City and Avon-by-the-Sea, along the Shark River.
I would have loved to see how they erected his monument using technology of 1898. The marble pieces used to build it were shipped from Vermont via railroad, then by horse and wagon to the cemetery.
The obelisk on the hilltop is the key as is the figurine.
This cemetery is an interesting visit: war veterans from various conflicts including the Civil War are interred here as are family clans and various ethnic groups. Overgrowth has claimed & toppled many grave markers but this burial ground, for the most part is surprisingly well kept and in good repair. Inscriptions and epithets on granite stones which date to the 19th century can be easily read. A ship’s anchor marks the burial site of Charles Dixon whose epithet is inscribed on weathered stone and difficult to decipher. Strange to say the least.
Perhaps the most interesting & curious is the obelisk (one of several) which stands proudly atop the highest point in these burial grounds. Erected in MDCCCXCVIII (1898) it is the resting place of Henry M Bennett (born 1831 in Vermont, died in NJ 1902), Francis M Bennett (Vermont 1829, expired 1897 in NJ) and commerorates their offspring Alice Francis Bennett (birthed in Vermont 1850, she passed in California in 1860 at age 10). One wonders, what took him from Vermont, to the west coast and to this final resting place, Neptune, New Jersey!
Mysteries abound …

W. Long Branch? Off Rt 36 and Rt. 71?
Looks like the cemetery next to the Neptune recycling center to me!
I think that’s the cemetery in Glendola, going west on Belmar Blvd
This is a tough one, it looks like several near here. My guess is the Greenwood Cemetery hill at the corner of Route 35, between Old Bridge and Schoolhouse Roads in Brielle. If that’s it, I used to pass it every day on my way to work and I always thought “That would be nice, a final resting spot with an ocean view.”
