It was the beginning of a beautiful beach weekend. On Friday afternoon, the floodgates of vehicles had already opened for another gridlocked weekend in the Grove. Ironically, both these parking games were being played out within one block of each other, almost on top of the NTPD substation next to Thornley Chapel.
By Saturday, I had to park over 3 blocks from my house, and while walking back, the sloppiness of parking on our streets was evident, with large segments of curb being empty, but not quite large enough to be a parking space. If only some parkers were more considerate and less arrogant.
Some have suggested marking the parking spaces in town, but that would, I am told, take up even more parking spaces given the sizes required. Have you noticed how large each marked handicapped space is?

As I was walking to the beach I noticed that a local contractor figured out how to handle parking: cones in front of the house to save the spot and have your trucks parked on each of the four corners near the house where the lines clearly indicate that it is a no parking area. Is this OK for everyone or just certain people?
Of course enforcement goes hand in hand with permits. It’s the only way it works. Same with yellow zone violations. Rare indeed does the parking enforcement vehicle make a pass around the Mountains let alone a squad car.
Ogrover says permits but then unknowingly provides an example of why permits won’t change anything.
The lack of enforcement of the illigal parking in OG is unbelievable. Try parking in Asbury or Bradley the way many do here and see how long before it’s addressed compared to the free for all here.
Another parking regulation won’t help anything in a town where anything goes.
Permits. Especially in the North End. There are yellow zone violations all over up here as well. Garbage truck couldn’t make the turn down my street because of them. Add to that parking a foot from curb because they were unable to squeeze into the space properly.
