This is from the Pew Research Center:
“A growing share of Americans are reading e-books on tablets and smartphones rather than dedicated e-readers, but print books remain much more popular than books in digital formats.”
And, to be more specific:
“A Pew Research Center survey finds that the share of Americans who have read a book in the last 12 months (73%) has remained largely unchanged since 2012. And when people reach for a book, it is much more likely to be a traditional print book than a digital product. Fully 65% of Americans have read a print book in the last year, more than double the share that has read an e-book (28%) and more than four times the share that has consumed book content via audio book (14%).”
So the Ladies Auxiliary of Ocean Grove is presenting a huge number of books for sale during this major July fund raiser. And we are sure that those “ladies” read a lot themselves. That is why a higher percent of the OG Ladies Aux. can actually spell “auxiliary” than a random sample of ladies or girls taken from the general population. (Rasmussen Poll)
During the early Blogfinger years we were admonished by a journalist to never call a woman a “lady.” Really? I always thought that calling a woman a lady was a compliment. But in this day and age of political correctness, we must be careful. However, the Ladies of the Aux. in OG refuse to become overnight women when they can still be ladies. What?
Oh well, at Blogfinger we are still doing our series of “Girls in their Summer Clothes” for which we were also admonished. But, like the Ladies of the Aux, we will stick to our guns (as allowed by the 2nd amendment) and retain our use of the word “girls.”
Anyhow, be sure to grab some books at the forthcoming sale. There are great bargains.
Schedule in the Auditorium Pavilion (authorized by the chief lady and bookseller, Captain Hook—Margaret Hook )
Thursday July 5. 5pm -7:30 pm $5.00 admission
Friday July 6. 10 am-7 pm free
Saturday July 7, 10 am to 2- pm free
(We have to do this because we cannot rely on the Groaners to get this schedule straight.)
And speaking of ladies, here are The Barenaked Ladies singing “It’s All Been Done Before” (speaking of doing the book sale before)
“It’s all been done
It’s all been done
It’s all been done before.”
“I knew you before the west was won
And I heard you say the past
Was much more fun…”

Fantastic photograph. Definitely illustrates the enormity of the sale–and the intricacy of the effort detailing the separate comprehensive collections. A highlight of the summer season !
Perhaps for some future related event they could have some highly-idenfied
authors, poets, etc. doing some readings before the sale days.
