Neptune Committee under siege at August 14 meeting—Part II: North End Redevelopment Plan

This is Tilly, the poster boy for funny business in Asbury Park. But who will be responsible for funny business on the OG side of the divide ??

This was a very busy meeting, and one of the topics was regarding the North End Redevelopment Plan. The Chair of the HOA North End Committee, Joan Venezia, went to the microphone during the public portion, as she always does, to ask if any progress was being made.   The Township Attorney told her that “everything is in order except that WAVE (the Co-Re-developer) still has no agreement with the Camp Meeting Association regarding ground rents.”

He gave the impression that the process was almost at the finish line, but we think otherwise.  To say that “everything is in order” seems to be a hugely inaccurate statement. The North End Plan has never received all the needed approvals including DEP (environmental) and there are many concerns regarding that including the underground garage.  In fact we have never seen final construction plans for any of the project including 165 condominium units and a hotel.  And there are other requirements as well including going to the Planning Board.

We also are suspicious that the current co-redevelopers might want to get final approvals and then walk away, selling the project (including its dubious zoning changes) to another developer, while pocketing a tidy sum of dollars in the process.

As usual, Joan did not get any solid assurances or information.  But she sure is trying.

And while we are discussing Grovarian development, there was a worrisome interaction at the meeting  between the Committee and several homeowners in town. We don’t have the address in question, but it seems that 3 homeowners were sold landlocked homes—ie none legally opening onto a road.  As a result, the Township is threatening to deprive them of services: garbage pickup and snow shoveling.    This seems like an interesting and worrisome  topic, but we don’t have much information at this time.

Mayor Brantley did a fine job last night trying to herd all the cats and juggle all the issues.  Maybe he needs some help—–Mayor, call Rhonda:
