« The coolest small town in America? Is it Asbury Park?
More gobbledygook from the Neptune Mayor and his OG friend; this time in an Asbury Park Press fire update. »

A reader wants to ban all future condominium conversion projects in the Grove. Would you?

Artist’s rendition for condos to replace the old Surf Avenue Hotel which was destroyed by fire in 2011. Condos were permitted for the site.

Master plan calls for one-family homes. That’s it !

At one point, Ocean Grove homeowners (year-round and summer residents) may not have the votes, but as the township’s “cash cow” they have resources to refashion a viable advocacy organization and/or coalition on our behalf.

    They are already banned.
Condominiums are not historic to Ocean Grove, and are not permitted under
the zoning. However, the Township Committee who prepared the zoning ordinance never got their own memo.
They also forgot to tell the members of the Planning Board and the Zoning Board.

Cynthia: The opposition to condominiums is not just about finding a parking space. Congestion in a small town produces problems that affect life-styles. Yes there are too many automobiles, but people congestion also occurs when someone crams condos into a property that should have a single family house, according the Master Plan.

We used to live next to a rental property on Heck Ave, beach block. In the summer, that house which had two cars would have sometimes brought maybe 2 or 3 more cars into town, and you can multiply that by the number of units in a condo building. It became a problem. and contributing to our decision to move elsewhere in town.

The “season” in the Grove is now at least 7 months long, and that congestion is thus felt most of the year by those who live here. More condos will make matters worse, and that tendency can be prevented by forcing State RSIS rules to be followed and zoning to be enforced properly.

And, if we are serious about historic preservation, that becomes another issue. Condos are not historic,no matter what the discredited HPC says. Try and find a condo building in historic Ocean Grove.

Only because of the lack of parking for the residents. There is plenty of ice cream just no parking.

TWR: This poll is based on a “what if you had a magic wand” scenario. We are seeking a sense of how Grovers might feel about this concept. For now, it is just a bit of roll playing. —Paul @Blogfinger

I certainly would! But shouldn’t we wait to see what Neptune and the developers who live in town want?
After, they have the final decision….
