« JUST WONDERING: How does Neptune Twp. get away with avoiding RSIS regulations in OG?
Letter to the Editor: The fate of the Francis Asbury Manor »

Who decided to pinkify our town’s name? “Welcome to Pink Grove.”

The invasion of the pink blobs. What is the meaning of those symbols at the building department, Neptune Township Municipal Building?  .Blogfinger photo 5/3/17.

By Paul Goldfinger, MD.  Editor @Blogfinger.net

Today I sat at a light behind a Neptune Township truck.  On the back were two pink blobs, identical to the two shown above at the Mother Ship.  If someone from Mars, literate in the language, myths and symbols of the Earth, saw the pink blobs, what would they think?

But more important, what would any random Neptuner think who saw one of those pink blobs.  Would they see a health message?  This blobification of our town is supposed to represent some idea having to do with breast cancer, but what good is it when nobody knows exactly what it means. And if anyone does know what it means, then they are just the ones who do not need to have pink blobs thrust in their path.

Today, we drove around some of the poorest neighborhoods in Asbury Park and we did not see any pink ribbons, banners or blobs.  (It reminds me of the song “buttons and bows” but this time it’s banners and bows.)

In Ocean Grove we have bows on Main Avenue and on Broadway,  But why are there none on Main Street in Asbury Park?  Here is a link  (May, 2016)  to our piece on breast cancer risk in the African-American community:

racial differences in breast cancer risk

This pink pestering phenomenon is not only regrettable because it looks so obnoxious and stupid, but because it is a failure in terms of educating anybody about breast cancer.  We have posted some articles about the current controversies related to breast cancer screening, and if you are interested in this subject, ignore the mindless pink symbols and read some facts instead.  Just use the search box at the top of this page and type “breast cancer.”

In addition, it represents a cynical subterfuge to gain more customers for the Hackensack-Meridian bottom line.

Emily: Are you saying that there is a cure for cancer that is being withheld by someone or something? Please clarify. —-Paul

You can paint the planet pink and it will still not get the release of the cure for cancer.
