Last night, around 7:30 pm, a large fire truck came down Delaware Ave. and navigated a turn right onto Mt. Hermon Way. A late model silver Honda was parked near the corner, but well outside the hatched yellow lines.
As the rear of the truck swung around, it damaged the Honda in back, scratched a line to the front and then knocked off the mirror for good measure. The truck proceeded eastward, apparently unaware of the collision. There were at least 3 witnesses. In no time we found out who owned the car—he lives 1/2 block away.
Why is this news? Well, all us locals know that the yellow hatched area must be kept clear so that the fire trucks can get by. But in this case, the firetruck had trouble getting by and caused car damage even though all the stars were in alignment. When was the last time you saw such an event? See! It is news—almost as fascinating as man bites dog.
