Asbury Park: They sure know how to shut down a bridge. »

Just wondering: North Ender asks about locking the gates across the Wesley Lake bridges.

Any information about gates on foot bridges crossing Wesley Lake? These were re-introduced around 1995, but I have heard they existed much earlier.
Currently the gates are locked at midnight. There is a proposal to lock the gates at 10 pm. This might discourage patrons to Asbury Park bars  (the lush life)  from parking  free on streets in OG closest to AP. It also might cut down on inebriated people causing a public nuisance late at night and getting into their cars and scratching our cars (and taking off a mirror or two) as they try to drive on our narrow streets.

Dr. Schmelzkopf of Monmouth University mentioned this issue in her talk. She called it “controversial.”

Seriously? The gates will have an unnoticeable effect on parking. Please take down the illegal relics of a bygone era. They serve no purpose other then making Ocean Grove look bad.

Agree with Joe. If anything, it’s only more of a nuisance to us Grovers coming back into town. I use the bridge because it’s two blocks from my home. It would be a real shame to have to now walk in a less well lit area at night, while having to walk around the bridge.

Editor’s note: This is one idea that emerged out of the Township Committee. They promised some immediate parking relief, but does anybody think they will come up with anything more than some band-aids? This idea seemed to be the most ridiculous. —-PG

I dont see how locking them at 10 will make a difference, People can just walk down to the casino or to Boulevard and back down Lake. If anything that would INCREASE the amount of time the “nuisance” people are wandering around Ocean Grove.

I know that when i go into Asbury we regularly walk down to the boards after dinner, so i would be just the same to walk through the casino
