A coastal storm forming off the mid-Atlantic coast will be held in place by high pressure to our north resulting in a prolonged period of gusty northeast winds and rain.
Northeast winds of 15mph to 25mph are already impacting the area. Gusty northeast winds will continue through Friday with the strongest winds occurring Wednesday night when gusts to 35mph are possible. Wind gusts of 30mph are then likely through Friday.
Rain will begin tonight and continue through Friday. Rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches are possible in the 48 hour period between tonight and late Friday night. Rain will taper to spotty showers by Saturday.
Persistent northeast winds will create rough seas and minor coastal flooding at the times of high tide around Noon from Wednesday through Friday. The high that occurs around midnight over the next three days is astronomically about one foot lower so coastal flooding should not be an issue during the overnight hours.
It should be emphasized that any coastal flooding will be minor…this will not be a storm that causes any major impacts in our area.
As the storm slowly moves eastward over the weekend, conditions will improve.
