3. Effective December 1, Neptune Township will have a new business administrator, Vito Gadaleta. He replaces Philip Huhn, who is retiring after 14 years in that key Township post. Gadaleta had been serving as Huhn’s assistant since May 1 with the expectation that he would succeed Huhn upon Huhn’s retirement. Gadaleta’s résumé includes four years as borough administrator in Pompton Lakes, N.J.
James Manning Jr., an ex-mayor with deep roots in the local Democratic Party, had lobbied hard to become Huhn’s successor. After it became apparent last spring that Manning was not in line to get the job, he and his allies fomented a rebellion within the party against Mayor Randy Bishop and Committeewoman Mary Beth Jahn, who had contended that Manning was unqualified. The Manning faction backed one of their allies, Nick Williams, in a primary fight, which Jahn won. For a refresher course on all of this, go here.
