1. At its Monday night meeting, the Neptune Township Committee passed the ordinance restricting skateboarding and rollerblading on public property. Click here for details. However, it looks as though the Committee will also try to find an appropriate place — and funding — for a skateboard park, so the young practitioners of that sport will have a safe place to perform. Committeewoman Mary Beth Jahn said there are grants the Township can apply for. All the committee members seemed convinced that a skateboard park would be a good thing.
2. Update on the Broadway drainage project: The contractor is finishing the drainage line on the North Side of Broadway this week. On Monday, June 18, work is scheduled to start at the intersection of Broadway and Central, says Neptune Township’s director of engineering, Leanne Hoffman. That part of the project will deal with the outfall into Fletcher Lake. The park along the lake will have limited access during the day, due to construction. A temporary fence will be installed during this time, and the work may last about five days, depending on weather and construction conditions.
3. Ocean Grove is getting two new handicapped parking spaces, approved by the Township Committee on Monday. One will be on the north side of Mt. Carmel Way west of its intersection with Pilgrim Pathway. The other will be on the east side of New York Avenue just north of the intersection with Abbott. At the same time, the handicapped spot on the north side of Abbott near the New York intersection will revert to regular parking.
I wish the Committee had moved on the park before the ban.
