Neighborhood Watch has issued yet another report of house break-ins in Ocean Grove. The incidence of these crimes has definitely increased lately.
During the past week, according to NW, two burglaries were reported on the south end of Pilgrim Pathway near Stockton Avenue and one was reported in the Broadway-Central area.
One residence was entered through an unlocked window, police said, and one was entered through an unlocked door. The burglar gained entrance to the third home by breaking a window.
These break-ins come on the heels of four others reported by NW last Monday. (Go here for that report.)
Two thefts were also reported this past week. A wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the area of 110 Embury Avenue and several personal items and cash were taken from an unlocked room in the area of 15 Pilgrim Pathway.

Walking and driving around town at night, I realized how dark our town is. Too many homes with absolutely no porchlights or indoor lights on. I realize many are not here in winter or during the week but lights can still be left on or use sensors so lights can come on when it gets dark. I’m grateful that one of my direct neighbors does this. Is there any way that all homes be notified of the problems and to consider lighting up their homes? Any thoughts on this??
Thank you OGCP. Your work is so important and is definitely recognized!!!
Thank you OGCP!!!! We really apprecaite your fine efforts.
@Ken (above), Thank you for your comment.
The OGCP is out there 7 days a week, 4 hours each night, except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The members are very loyal and dedicated. Members have been apprised of the recent breakins and told to keep an extra eye on the neighborhood. Some members have even offered to do two shifts right now. If you are concerned about these recent unfortunate occurences in the Grove please consider joining the Ocean Grove Citizen’s Patrol. The commitment is small– one night a month for two hours. And the group is friendly and non-political. Let’s keep our community safe.
If interested you may contact Jan or Sherry Sotnikoff either by email: OGCPprez@aol.com, or phone, at 732-774-6582.
(Mr. Goldfinger – Thank you for the post.)
We need cameras at all entrances to town and at key intersections. Patrolling Police are excellent, but we obviously need additional deterrent.
The OGCP is capable of putting both its cars on street patrol nightly if some additional drivers would sign up. Protect your streets, volunteer just two hours a week for either the 9 to 11 or 11 to 1 shift.

Heidi, I just came in from walking my dog. I saw several cars patrolling.
So, what is going on with the police? Are they ever around?
It seems the local watch dogs are wasting their time too!!!
It is unbelievable how much crime is in Ocean Grove!!!!
