Four unoccupied houses were entered recently and things stolen, according to the latest report of our local Neighborhood Watch. Police were vague about locations, saying only that two of the burglarized houses were on Ocean Avenue, one was on Main Avenue and one was on Mt. Hermon Way.
(We reported several days ago about an Ocean Avenue burglary. Go here for that.)
These burglaries are starting to seem like a definite trend. The previous Neighborhood Watch report, on December 30, included three cases of residences being burglarized.
Police had three reports of criminal mischief to vehicles in the area of Cookman Avenue and Clark Avenue. Three people were arrested.
Police said they had several reports that rocks were thrown through the rear windows of vehicles.
Anyone who has information pertaining to any of these crimes should contact Neptune Police at 732-988-8000.

Wouldn’t it be helpful to have some idea from our Neptune Twp. police force as to how often and with what intensity our streets are being patrolled?
(In the past, our “police commissioner”/township committeewoman said that would tip off the violators. So be it — if they don’t show up. To her credit, she is the only committee member who responds to blog concerns.)
As taxpayers, we continue to support an enlarging law enforcement structure.
What added protections are we receiving in Ocean Grove as the result of our unusual vulnerability?
This forum is wonderful
@Mr. BLogfinger,
Grateful to you, too! For posting our comments.
@Sal,
Your comment: “Our safety depends on each other.”
“NUFF SAID!”
You’re so right.
@Ken,
You are right! That’s not too much to ask. In a small town like this, volunteerism is key. And one more patroller is one more set of eyes!
The Ocean Grove Citizens Patrol is always in need of a few more drivers for the two hour night patrols. Once a week, even only once a month, can make a difference. Try it. you’ll like it!
The Ocean Grove Citizen Patrol should just continue to patrol as they do. They do a fantastic job in helping to keep our streets safe . Only,lets be a little safer by calling the Neptune Police to check out anyone walking about our streets late at night. We can’t always assume that people walking around late at night are just walking home or to a car. Unless we know them that is…….
Also, it’s a good thing to look out our windows late at night just to scan our own street. And if we see something unusual, don’t be shy, the police are out there on patrol. They will respond to our calls. Call 911 and report what your believe is going on in your area. They need our help in identifying crime in Ocean Grove. Our safety depends on each other.
Why doesn’t Neptune publish a police blotter in local papers? Someone asked this question at a neighborhood watch meeting in 2007 and received the answer: Criminals read the papers. All the more reason to publish the blotter, imho.
When you say “unoccupied” does that mean no one was home at the time, or were these houses more like 2nd homes or vacation houses, where the norm for that house is that it’s empty?
Why doesn’t Neptune post the police blotter in any of the local papers? I’ve asked this before and no answer.
So why hasn’t Neptune Township and/or our Police put out a phone warning to OG yet? Why is it that the only way we know about all these burglaries is thru this Blog? This crime wave is getting to be too much and really needs to be dealt with right away. First step should be informing OG citizens about the issue and warning them. Why this has not happened yet just doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
Fighting crime through the rearview mirror does not seem to be a very effective strategy for the Grove. Perhaps we should try some new approaches.
