I spoke to a friend who lives in LA. He tried to stay in his home, but the threat was scary and uncertain. Yet he and his family stayed in the house and wore masks because the air quality was so bad. But after two days they decided to leave.
His synagogue burned to the ground.
Today they found an apartment in Palm Springs where the air is better. That’s more inland. They expect to stay there for one week, but he doubts that the air quality near his home will be much better then.
The unpredictability is scary; almost unbearable.
I have asthma, and the idea of it is terrifying just thinking about it.
I asked him why they don’t travel east, for example to Chicago. He said, “What? I can’t stand the cold. I hate snow.”
We’ll check with him in a few days.
