   Brian Wilson created a fine version of Gershwin’s song “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess, an opera about a poor Charleston African-American community called “Catfish Row. ”

   But he turned his back on the lyricist Ira Gershwin because of political correctness.

   Ira Gershwin: ” …with Daddy and Mammy standing by.”

   Brian Wilson: “…with Daddy and Mama standing by.” Wilson denied the more accurate African American vernacular.
