The occupants of the Heck house weren’t very friendly . Neighbors occasionally noted some worrisome comings and goings. Sometimes the woman of the house would come outside and scream obscenities.
Yesterday morning was a fine kettle of fish. The quietude of this friendly Grover block was rattled by the arrival of a multitude of cop cars including some that say “Neptune Police” and others that say “Monmouth County Prosecutors or Sheriff. ”
A loud voice was heard saying, “Open this door. We have a warrant,” followed by some loud banging.
The police were knocking down the front door. This was clearly a drug raid.
Our reporter Jean Bredin was there (“Around Town with Jean.”) She reports, “”Early this morning the police, using a battering ram, broke the front door down of 93 Heck Ave.They gave warning to open the door as they had a search warrant.”
“Within a short time 2 Sheriff and one Neptune police van pulled up, multitudes of police, even a trained police dog. Within a short time, one of the tenants were handcuffed and sitting out front.”
A man was brought out in handcuffs and stayed that way while the home was searched. Then he was taken away, only to return a short while later, a free man.
We have no other information, but you need “probable cause” to get a warrant from a judge.
A little later, a woman from the house came out on the porch and was screaming that they (a man and a woman) were being framed.
Editor’s note: Drug sales in Ocean Grove are not new. Residents have reported such activity for at least the last 20-30 years. There have been a number of such locations monitored by the NTPD such as the decrepit Whitfield Hotel which has been torn down and replaced by 4 single family homes.
In addition there is a lively drug marketplace in Asbury Park which is a major hub of drug distribution for this region—as is Neptune Township. That is one reason why the idea of a drug rehabilitation facility on Ocean Avenue in OG was opposed by many citizens.
