Eileen received a few pieces of Stangl pottery from my mother. Then she found some more at the OG few market and the antique barn in Waretown, New Jersey in Burlington County. The business began in 1814 in Flemington, but it expanded in the 1940’s when hand carved and painted dinnerware became popular. The factory was originally in Flemington, but it burned down , so the company moved to Trenton.
The Stangl Pottery Company had a popular outlet store in Flemington from the 1930’s until they closed in 1978. My parents would take car rides to go there and look for bargains. Their dinnerware was high quality and was known for colorful floral and fruit patterns. My mother liked the blueberry designs. Tour buses would go to the outlet, and some of you might remember visiting there.
If you have any collectible items, especially from Ocean Grove and/or New Jersey, we will feature them if you can provide some interesting information. We would photograph them for you if you cannot do it for yourself.
We also would welcome offerings from the collection at the Historical Society of Ocean Grove to share with the people of Ocean Grove and other OG fans. How about it HSOG? ——Paul Goldfinger, Editor @Blogfinger.net

I believe at some poit the Stangl outlet also sold pfatzgraft pottery. When I was growing up we got a set of Stangl blue ware that was sold at Tiffany’s when perfect-we got seconds which looked perfect. It was always fun looking thru all the odds and ends for sale. That was when Flemington was fun and not inundated with outlets. I guess I like the smaller quaint shopping.
No Pam. They kept the Stangl name for over 50 years and then they closed without a name change. Here is a link
That picture from Flemington looks like the Pfaltzcraft pottery store/outlet from the 1980s and 1990s. Do you think Pfaltzcraft took over from Stangl?
Also I have some coffee mugs from Chatham Potters called Country Harvest. This company was located on Watchung Ave in Chatham, NJ until around the 1990s. (That building is now a wholesale florist and I think Ocean Grove florist gets their roses from them). They also made other patterns but Country Harvest was the popular pattern.
My mom gave pieces of this pattern to our New England relatives during the 1960s. Also everyone at the local Chatham bank where I used to work owned their own Country Harvest coffee mug which they used for coffee breaks. Its interesting to research other pottery companies from NJ.
