Paul:

What we are focusing on in this wonderful scene,  perhaps from the 1920’s or 1930’s,  are those vehicles parked on Ocean Ave., that yellow push cart with some riders enjoying the salt air, and some folks sitting on not so wide wooden benches. We see a lady with an orange dress and gold colored heels, lamp posts on the boards and in the those grass strips,  and the North End Hotel in the distance.  And there is that white building where the current Pavilion sits. It says “Auditorium” See postcard below for more details on that structure.

A post card reflecting the time. Imagine that  someone in 2114 is counting on us to take a picture or two of our times on and off the boards. So let’s have a great big smile for them to see!

Rich

It may not be Atlantic City, but so what…..here is MARQUIS  with some acapella vocalizing “down on the ol’  New Jersey shore.”

Beezee. Thank you for your comment, however, if you look at the postcard history day article below this one, you will see that we have a closeup of that white building with an explanation. Paul

While the building SAYS “Auditorium”, it doesn’t MEAN Auditorium. On the original postcard, which I possess (and here just faintly), there’s a disembodied hand above the word pointing left/west. Needed then, as now apparently. Over the years, I’ve often been asked where the Auditorium might be, and have pointed in just that direction.

While we’re at it though, let’s look at those beach-side benches! The reversible kind! You could move the back one way or the other to look at either the ocean or the passing Boardwalk scene. AP had them too (Asbury blue and white); OG’s were dark green. The last of the OG ones disappeared during the ’92 storm. And I’m still kicking myself for not taking pictures and measurements. Such a great idea, I thought they’d go on forever………

About a dozen years ago someone wanted to have push car carts on OG boardwalk. It was as I recall a controversial issue. Perhaps it is time to re-visit the idea. After all Swan boats are now back in Wesley Lake.
