A pool…a swim club…another fee to pay? As taxpayers in Neptune Township and as Camp Meeting Association ground rental payers, how about “free” beach badges?
Gosh, I heard there was also a pool fund being raised by the Auditorium’s Women’s Auxiliary, do you or a Woman’s Aux. member know what happened to that account?
The pool was still in existence in the late 1980’s. Also there was an account opened by residents that the CMA made for a new pump that was needed in order to open the pool, but who knows what happen to the account.
Plus you cannot have a piece of property in need of re-development with a working pool.
This picture is one of the pools from the North End Hotel. The hotel was torn down in 1978 but the pool remained open until at least the late 1980s. It was a saltwater pool for all the years we spent in Ocean Grove. We spent every summer there from 1973 until 1988 and continue to spend shorter vacations there now. I’m in the picture above, the long haired blond wearing the white shirt with red stripes on the sleeve. I was taught to swim by Sally McNaughton and Anna Nichols in that pool.
I have met many long time Ocean Grovers who learned to swim in this pool and have fond memories of it. From what I have been told it used to be a saltwater pool getting its water from the ocean.
After its demise as a pool the art-deco-looking building was used by OGCMA for a storage and maintenance facility. OGCMA now has its storage and maintenance facility in Bradley Beach across from the bowling alley on 71.
It would be wonderful i the pool were re-built. However I do not think OGCMA has or ever had any plans to do so.
With the demise of the North End Hotel in 1978 did the Grove still maintain the two pools on that property or is this a different pool at the north end of town? Anyone want to jump in on this?
I thought the pool died much earlier than the 1980’s. It would be great to have a nice pool again. I have never heard the idea raised. Did demand for the pool just fall off, or were there other reasons why the pool was removed?
Wouldn’t a nice town pool — like Spring Lake’s — be a much better use of the North End land than condos/houses that require parking spots and will further overpopulate the north of OG?

Ocean Grove: a really cute small town at the Jersey Shore.

I would love a pool in Ocean Grove!

A town pool or swim club would be a wonderful addition to Ocean Grove.
Recreational facilities for the community, parks, etc. Not if condos or real estate is on the agenda.
I think it would be great to have a fresh water pool near the ocean. I remember lots of pool side fun in some of the Wildwood motels during the 80s.
