Blogfinger Storm Center. COMMENTS. Tuesday. Part 2
October 28, 2012 by Blogfinger
Looking at all the damage & destruction overall. I’m sure OG looks pretty bad, but from what I’ve seen on the news & online, it really was spared. “God’s Square Mile” indeed, coincidence? I posted earlier about my sis & Thankfully heard her voice on Wednesday morning. She has a roof over her head and she was well prepared with supplies to be hunkered down for a while, as my family encouraged her to be. She is much better off than most. Good Luck with the clean up, wish I could come help somehow. A very special place, Love to the OGeezy!
Thanks for these great reports. Here in Argentina, we have stood with you all in prayer. Any details on Dale and Carol Whilden? So good to find your updates.
Thank you, Tim. We feared the worst and that is pretty bad. But no one was hurt there, so thank God for that.
Marianne
Thanks to all for this wonderful blog. We have a home on the Corner of Pilgrim Pathway and Heck. It sounds like things are OK, but if anyone can let about 57 Pilgrim Pathway, we would greatly appreciate it! Hope all our neighbors are safe.
Yardley,
What block is your house on Inskip? Trying to figure out if the lake water made it over to Stockton between Delaware and New Jersey. No way if getting home to check.
Thank you!
Marianne,
Sorry but your condo did flood. My friend has the condo above yours, and I went to check on it. Saw your entrance flooded. Water line was about 1/2 way up the window on the door. Had dropped to below the door knob when I was there.
I have a bungalow on Inskip. Looked like the water from Fletcher Lake
came in the front door and out the back door. Water was gone by the time
I got there but the mud remained. It looks like the water level was about 3-6 inches inside the house. A house two doors down with better construction
had no water infiltration inside the house. I’m thankful the damage wasn’t worse to my place.
Thank you, Blogfinger, for all the reports and photos. As an out-of-town owner of a condo on Pitman, I truly appreciate your dedication to your readers.
Does anyone know about the Majestic Inn on Main street?
Does anyone know how the Laingdon Hotel at 8 ocean avenue is?
My sister stayed and I’m assuming she’s OK by the pix & just can’t get word out. Are all the buildings intact on Asbury Ave by the lake on the north side?
Our family lives on Heck in Ocean Grove and we’re relieved to know their house wasn’t damaged and they are fine–and that most of Ocean Grove is–but we feel for those who suffered loss. Thanks so much for you blog. It was what kept us in touch with the situation there from our home in California.
Thanks to Bill Haase for good news about Heck Ave. Hope others are as fortunate!
I want to add my thanks to the Goldfingers and to everyone else who has posted information and photos of the storm. My family and I have been watching from CT and VT. (Dan B.: Thanks for the “Heck Report.”)
Thank you to all of those keeping us informed about OG. For those of us living far away and who are unable to see for ourselves what has happened, your commitment to Ocean Grove and your neighbors is appreciated more than you know! I am living in another country and detailed American news is hard to come by. Saddened to learn of the damage, but grateful for all that went unscathed. Hoping and praying power is restored sooner rather than later.
Does anyone know if the Families on Water View Ct in Shark River Hills evacuated to a shelter. Looking for a specific family whose loved ones have not heard from them.
Anne on Heck. Believe we lucked out. Houses looked good to relative who checked our house next to yours. Got this info via son in California who talked with him on phone, We couldn’t get thru to him. Thanks to Blogfinger and staff.
A wonderful service to bring the community together in good and bad times.
Bill & Ruth
For the most part, God’s Square Mile is safe. Walking around, most of the houses look good. The ocean came in two to three blocks on most streets, but it didn’t rise past the sidewalks for the most part. Heck Avenue looked good. No power and very sandy, but we could be worse.
Thank you so much for your posts. We can’t find anything out about OG, here in Brooklyn.
Thank you for posting the information about the storm damage there in Ocean Grove. Eight of us were Drew students that took a course there a couple of years ago and I, for one, have been praying for all there. This blog was the best way to know the status of things. So grateful that there was no loss of life, but sad to hear about the damage. Many good memories there and I hope to return someday soon.
Thank you for being there…….I’m far away, and wonder how my little home at 32 Beach, is holding up. It’s right beside the Ocean Plaza Hotel on the Pathway. I will keep tuned to your blog for further developments. Thank you, Paul, Mary, and Charles
Comment: Dr. Goldfinger,
I just want to say thank you for your blogs. My husband and I own a summer home on Stockton Avenue in Ocean Grove and have followed your blog during Hurricane Irene and now Sandy. Your reporting and information has been a blessing for many residents who vicariously experience events on the ground through your regular blogs. Thank you again to you and your entire team.
Just wanted to let you know that we out-of-towners really appreciate this information! It’s so difficult to wait and wonder about the damage. I’m sad to hear about the destruction that did occur but relieved to hear it wasn’t even worse. Does anyone know about water in the houses? I have a house on the beach block of Heck Ave. (In fact Blogfinger himself was my old next door neighbor!) If anyone knows about flooding in that area, let me know. Thanks again for this great blog. Anne
Thank you so much for your coverage of Ocean Grove during Hurricane Sandy. While I discovered Blogfinger during my search for storm information, I will now be a regular reader from now on.
I have so many memories of what felt like endless summers, and I pray that Ocean Grove is protected as we move into a world with increasing numbers of these storms.
Thank you everyone for the updates. As with Bob H. any news of Franklin Avenue near New Jersey Aveue?
Thanks so much to Blogfinger for the news and photos. Am in NYC frantic for news of our little town. Hungry for more! Please do update.
Thanks so much for the updates! You are the only source for what is happening on the ground in Ocean Grove.
Does anyone know anything about the houses on Franklin Ave. north of Fletcher Lake?
How did the south side of OG fair with overflow of Fletcher Lake and ocean high tide? Any news or pictures would be appreciated. Having your eyes and news about OG is such a valuable service. Thank you. Garrett & Linda Stockton Ave
Blessings abound! We are grateful for the resilience and good cheer of our friends and neighbors, and for everyone whose vigilance has kept us safe. We are proud to call Ocean Grove home. We’ve weathered many storms there, and are glad we can be there for this one, thanks to blogfinger. Harriet, Bill, Sarah and Reece Milks, 15 Abbott and Juneau, Alaska
We have a home on Stockton Ave by Frances Asbury Manor. Does anyone know if that area flooded from Fletcher Lake or Ocean surge? Any news would be greatly appreciated on the conditions there. Thanks for all the info on this blog.
Does anyone know if the house at Ocean Ave and Broadway (on corner) flooded? We own the basement condo. Thanks for your excellent work down there…..
Thank you for the quick response.
All of the info on this blog is awesome and appreciated!
Worried: Yes, they’re intact. Without power though.
My mom lives on Broadway near Pilgrim Pathway. Anyone know if those houses are intact?
I’m in Florida and so frustrated that I can’t be there!! Trying to book air reservations is impossible. I am so grateful to Blogfinger for the wonderul coverage, and also to Ted A for his pictures as well.
Does anyone know anything about the houses on Bath Ave near the ocean? Norman across the street on Ocean Pathway found that even in the face of his condos’ reconstruction, there seems to be no damage.

Thank you for updates. I am anxiously waiting to get back to my house on Webb to access damage. Fingers crossed
Ahhh…thank you!
We live on Cookman between New Jersey and Delaware I understand from my wife that other than a few gutters blowing off there was no water in the basement and no water in the street during the surge.
Thanks for the continued updates. I know it can’t be easy under these conditions, and in the dark.
