My favorite thing I remember about the funhouse at the Palace was near the end you’d go through the jail. The first time I did it, I was 7 years old and I could not figure out how to get past the bars — until someone else came through and simply grabbed one of the bars, in a very specific location, and it was made of black rubber and could be pulled far enough open to allow one to pass.
That was the summer of 1969 and it was the last time my family ever went to AP. Too bad things worked out how they did for AP because they had a very fun town.
Thank you for sharing – as soon as I saw the picture, it brought back very happy memories. And, yes, I think that is the Ferris wheel that was inside the building. I always wanted to ride on it, but my parents said no – probably things were going on that I was too young to understand.

My favorite at the Palace was the tilt-a-whirl (when I was old enough). In 1963, though, it would have been the boat rides on the lake.
Really a shame that AP destroyed itself.
Rode through the roof many times. I vividly remember the first time I was allowed ride it solo. Boating on the lake was a big deal as well. Ah youth!
Geez, Paul…your photos are fantastic!

All I know is that the red writing in front of the Ferris wheel area says “Palace Amusements.”
All I know is that the red lettering along the edge of the lake on the AP side says, “Palace Amusements.”
If you remember: Was that Ferris wheel the one that was in the Palace that went thru an opening in the roof? Perhaps another/different one?
I love this picture. This is how I remember seeing Asbury as a young teenager.
