To the Editor
May 30, 2012
I’ve been quiet during the past few months, but feel I must correct some misinformation which has been posted on this blog and publically stated by elected officials.
First, the Administrator position was not posted by the Neptune Township Committee. In December 2011, the Township Committee created two new jobs: “Assistant Business Administrator”, a part-time position created by the Committee in December 2011 with a salary range of $10,000-$85,000 with no benefits and a “Police Director” position with a range of $60,000-$120,000. These two positions were created by salary ordinance 11-48 (http://www.neptunetownship.org/upload/documents/2011Clerk/Legals_121211.pdf).
The Assistant Business Administrator job was posted in February 2012 (posting: http://www.neptunetownship.org/news/2012/02/08/job-posting-asst-administrator-part-time)
The position was not advertised twice like Committeewoman Jahn states; it was posted one time for about a three week period; one week after the posting, the posting was amended to reflect “Residency Preferred” instead of “Residency Required”.
I was contacted by the Township and scheduled for an interview for Tuesday, March 20th. See http://www.neptunetownship.org/news/2012/03/20/special-meeting
I was called on March 19th and told the interviews will be postponed and I will be contacted with the rescheduled date for the interview after Easter. On Saturday, March 24th, the Democratic Executive Committee met and voted not to endorse Jahn for re-election (and I did not have a vote at that meeting). On Monday, March 26th, the same night Bishop/Jahn did not re-appoint Nick Williams to the Housing Authority (a 10-year member), the Committee decided not to interview me and I subsequently received a certified letter. These actions were clearly retaliation for Jahn not getting the support of the Democratic party.
I do not understand why I am the villain for applying for a part time job with no benefits. I am the only applicant (out of 24 who applied for the job) which some members of the Township Committee continue to bad-mouth; three months after the job posted ended. Jahn at the OG homeowners meeting Saturday did not want to discuss the two other candidates running for Committee since they were not there; but she was compelled to again bad-mouth me at the meeting.
Vito is a good guy and I wish him the best of luck in the part-time position. I don’t fault him at all. But our elected officials owe it to the public and to applicants who apply for positions that they will not be ridiculed and bad-mouthed just for applying for a position. Make your decision and move on.
The negative and vindictive actions by Jahn over the years, and especially during this personnel matter is the reason I, and many individuals are not supporting her re-election. Look at her facebook postings; look at how she attacks residents on this blog who do not agree with her – those are the reasons Jahn’s support is limited.
Sincerely,
JAMES MANNING, JR.
Neptune Township, New Jersey
The writer is a former Committeeman in Neptune Township. He is a CPM–Certified Public Manager
Jim Manning never left Neptune. I did not move out of town. I have lived in Neptune Township, including for the past year. I closed on a home in Shark River Hills in April of this year.
Just out of curiousity….did Jim Manning, Jr. officially move BACK to Neptune? He was living out of town for over a year. If not, why is he still a member of the Neptune Democratic Club? He can’t vote here unless he never changed his address…which is another issue, isn’t it? Just sayin’
DLT – I think you’re greatly over-estimating your own importance in the scheme of things. But that seems to be endemnic to being a Neptune Democrat.
(And I’m pretty sure the will of the voters is what decides elections.)
DLT – I think you are mistaken. While you say new Democrats are welcome, I can tell you that the few meetings I attended years ago before all of this started were awkward, unwelcoming, and kind of depressing. I can’t remember much of the meeting except a dozen older people huddled in the VFW, all of whom clearly having known each other forever, not a single person under 40 in the room, and a raging debate over what kind of beer to buy or something otherwise of little consequence. I’ve stopped in occasionally, and back until recently, and it was the same people for the most part, with the exception of a club president who clearly was not interested in welcoming anyone. You might have district leaders who have been at it for thirty years, but clearly they aren’t in touch with anything more than what they want for their closed little circle of people.
What we need in politics is an independent party to represent the largest group- all those not registered as Democrats or Republicans. This could work if they would just go to the polls and VOTE. The sad fact is that less than 1/2 of those eligible do that simple thing. You do get the government you deserve.
Ocean Lover: I hope you and others continue to be involved in the township. Dialogue is healthy when it is constructive.
Ocean Lover: We always welcomed new Democrats to our meetings and we do it by a phone system (I don’t know what they call it). The Ocean grove people did indeed come to the last 2 meetings with only one single thing on their mind, wanting to know about Marybeth and why she was not the choice. Other then that, very few Ocean grove people show up at all.
We have been doing this for over 30 years or more, not 2 months. The reality is that we know the people who have been the real democratic people and who has contributed over all the years to be successful at 5-0. thsi takes alot of work and elections are not won overnight. A candidate is as strong as the people who do support them.
Denis Mc Carney ran against Randy and lost because of the support. Now he is a democrat so I heard. Is he going to do the work at all of the events and support the club, I hope so. Mr Hotaling came to us and ran with our support. he told us he was also a former republican and it was fine. Now he has gone against his fellow district leaders and chairman and support an non Nepune Democratic organization candidate, please do not come to our meeting with blinders on but be part of something that we hacve all worked for as democrats. Thank you and hope they you do come and join us in all we do.
Neptune Citizen:
Your position that Mr. Williams and Dr. Brantley coming to the OGHOA meeting would not have made a difference because the OGHOA is supporting MBJ, has no merit. Listening to other viewpoints and positions is important. As a thinking person, I welcome hearing others’ views so that I can decide what I do and do not agree with. Mr. W and Dr. B choosing not to participate in the candidates’ forum was very telling. Clearly their interest and involvement in Ocean Grove, Neptune Township, will be minimal at best. And that’s not good enough for me!! We still haven’t heard from Mr. Williams as to his vision for the township. A couple of his areas of interest were noted in a brief article in today’s APP. That’s all I know about him.
DLT:
Don’t assume that I (and others) never belonged to any organization. I have belonged to a variety of organizations as well as other local Democratic Clubs. They certainly were not like this one. In fact they were welcoming and inclusive. I intend to be at future meetings, the 2nd Tuesday of the month on a consistent basis to hear reports from elected officials, no matter how exclusionary this organization’s president chooses to be.
And I’ll be there in rain, sleet, or snow!! You can bet on it!!
Cthulhu Fgtagan: I hope you will be joining me!!
Despite any contrary opinions …Mary Beth will win re-election easily…for a very simple reason….SHE DOES THE JOB..and the voters know that
@Grovertoo read what I wrote, I never said that Ocean Grove does not matter. Ocean Grove is one area of Neptune and I am a homeowner in Neptune and I pay a substantial amount in taxes. I want someone who is dedicated to serving all of Neptune. There areas in Neptune that need attention due to dangerous situations that are occurring.
Your home owners association is supporting Jahn; they could have come and spoke and it would not have made much of a difference. You have made your decisions and that is your CHOICE.
CTHULHU FGTAGAN & MARY BETH JAHN for Netpune Township Committee!!!! You know they will represent Ocean Grove well!!!
District Leader Too, your selective memory forgets how I worked the door at many pancake breakfasts and spaghetti dinners — in fact, I tore three ligaments in my right foot when I took a fall at the pre-primary pancake breakfast in 2009 and spent the summer in a walking cast. I don’t remember your collecting money or serving guests.
The Chairman was well aware that I had two conflicting meetings on the second Tuesday night of the month: one was my appointment to the Monmouth County Transportion Council of the County Planning Board, which brought the beach shuttle, jumped the priority of widening Route 66 way up the list of FEMA projects, and has given Neptune the opportunity to possibly have an intratown shuttle.
I don’t care if you like my letter. You can throw it out. The truth is, in the past 20 years there have only been 5 female township committee members. And this town is more than half female. If you feel that strongly about speaking to me, then email me at mcdlancer@aol.com or call me at 732-272-7888. But before you do that, ask yourself whether this action would have been taken against a male member of the township committee.
It’s a Democratic Social Club, DLT. You’re just bent she didn’t come to kiss your ring. I guess having your ego stroked is more important than Neptune’s having a voice at a county level.
I’ve seen Mary Beth at all but a few pancake breakfasts – I specifically remember the one where she fell and broke her foot and Jim Mowczan had the nerve to complain about her leaving to go get medical treatment.
As for Dem Club meetings, she’s said time and again it conflicts with a county transportation committee meeting. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have her working on getting money to widen Route 66 than reiterating everything that was said the night before at the township committee meeting. But I guess that’s where some people differ as to what’s important and what isn’t.
If people are throwing insults, the moderation team of this site catches it and refuses to post it. Remember, your not agreeing with something doesn’t make it insulting.
A spagetti dinner, pancake breakfast or corn beef dinners are Fund raisers for the candidates to raise money. Don’t you think that if you were being honored that you would at least have the decency to show up and thank the people who spent money to be there or the people who put there time in to prepare the meals, set up and clean up. It is just not about showing up. Aso the Democratic Club meetings are for the elected officials to give their reports to the people who show up. We show up in rain, snow and cold nights to hear what they have to report and other business. It is so obvious that you have never belonged to any organization. We could easily stay home or spend our time doing other things.
Marybeth: I recieved a letter today from you and it is the most down grading thing I’ve ever seen. I will pesonally address this with you in person. A group of men decided on their candidate. There were at least 10 female district leaders that were in that room and most of them did not support you. Boys will be Boys, what was that all about. I supported 2 men and there were 3 qualified to be the candidates. If you think this letter will win you an election pitting men voters against woman, you are drinking too much of the kool aid. Some of the District leaders have been her for 25 years or longer. I tolsd you I have been there a few good years. Patricia Monroe was a woman and very well respected and still is today in the community.
@Neptune Citizen: So you think Ocean Grove doesn’t matter! Wow, I’d bet Neptune Township would be surprised that OG doesn’t matter. Especially because OG, among other areas, provides a good deal of tax dollars. You are kidding Right? Really, keeping regular attendance at a moribund, lackluster, insider club is the key to social and economic success to our Township? The OG Homeowners Meeting is an open Meeting to all concerned Neptune residents. The opposition chose not to come!! The key word here is CHOSE! That says all that needs to be said. He doesn’t care or he doesn’t know. Those are the only two choices. And yes, as the only woman on the committee, that issue does matter. The real insult is the other members of the party that have ignored this very successful woman incumbent.
I find it quite amusing that the only people who speak “highly” of Mary Beth are the residents of Ocean Grove. How many times has she ever invited you to come to the democratic club meetings? She only wanted you there to benefit her. How come she did not invite other Neptune residents?
Registered Democrat – you say you want to hear the merits from the other candidates which do not include slamming the opposition. Please read the past blogs that Mary Beth and her sister who go by several other tags on this blog. They both throw insults. Mary Beth is one vote, she did not accomplish anything on her own. Mr. Manning and the other democrats are giving you facts.
I received a letter in the mail today from Jahn asking for my vote because I am a woman. Again she is insulting the other members of the party.
People for the good of Neptune pay attention to the facts.
Kudos to Cthulhu Fgtagan for summarizing key points in such a clear
manner. If only the Democratic Party candidates (Mary Beth Jahn being the exception) would communicate as clearly.
I’d like to ask District Leader Too a question, Can you tell me why the number of spaghetti dinners, pancake breakfasts, or corn beef nights a candidate has attended should influence my vote? I realize it’s important to get out and meet the public, but really–all of this sounds kind of silly. Should the Ocean Grove Home Owners have cooked up some waffles to get Dr. Brantley and Nick Williams to come to our “meet the candidates” meeting?
Cthulhu Fgtagan:
Thank you for your posting!! I couldn’t have said it any better.
After reading the letters in today’s Coaster and all of the above comments I agree wholeheartedly! I could care less about the meetings Mary Beth missed, the breakfasts, the corned beef dinners. MBJ continues to be an independent voice who does the right thing for this township. Her expertise and know-how are evident. She is a known factor with a great proven record. As far as going to the local Democratic Club meetings, the president’s recent behavior was deplorable. Attending those meetings felt like being in someone’s little “fiefdom.” “Don’t upset our applecart.” That’s how it felt.
Mr. Williams: I’m so happy to read your posting. I’m frankly shocked that you did post since it had been noted that you don’t read blogs and couldn’t care less what is posted about you. I also read that you and others in the local Democratic Club thought negatively toward Ms. Jahn because she posted on this blog, and stated so openly. So I guess your reading this blog and posting to clarify information about yourself is not so bad after all!! Would you care to apologize to Ms. Jahn for using social media to clarify information on comments posted here? It would be nice if you did!!
You seem like a perfectly likeable person and family man. And you want to be elected to the Neptune Town Council. Okay. What is your platform? What issues concern you about Neptune and what will you do about them? What will your involvement be in The Gables, Midtown, Shark River Hills, Bradley Park, Ocean Grove?? What are your positions? What do you stand for? I have no idea!!
I’m sorry you weren’t available to speak at the candidates’ forum last Saturday at the OGHOA meeting. You could have made your positions known there. But wait, you were out of town for the weekend. Yet you were spotted at our Memorial Day Parade?? I guess the question is not only, Who is Nick Williams? But where is Nick Williams?
District Leader Too – I looked at the ballot and Randy Bishop isn’t on it. Neither is Jim Manning’s name. And while this “inside baseball” stuff is really interesting and all, it has nothing to do with the fact that the District Leaders chose to replace a highly successful candidate with one of questionable credentials and whom the voters of this town have already decided once they didn’t want on the Board of Education. And the only reasonings you, Mr. Manning, and Mr. Mowczan can say is that you don’t like her style. Allow me to ask you this – what’s more important? Style or results? Answer me and the voters of this town that question.
Because as I see it, our taxes have been stable (sure, I’d like to see them lowered but we haven’t taken the hits other towns have), the committee hasn’t had to lay off cops. Our services haven’t been effected terribly. We still have bulk trash pick up. And our credit bond rating has gone up tremendously.
Why should I, as a voter, care if Democratic Club meetings are missed? Why should I care if she calls into vote sometimes? Why should I care if she told someone off during the blizzard? The amount of crap she undoubtedly took, I’m sure at least a couple of people had it coming.
This whole thing has stunk from the start. And I know why. I saw it in action at the couple of Dem Club meetings I went to that there is a total lack of leadership in that club, and what leadership exists has its priorities way out of line.
District Leader seems to be a key post I never even heard of before this brouhaha. Where on the Primary Ballot is this position (is it FOR MEMBER OF THE COUNTY COMMITTEE-MALE? and on the line below -FEMALE?). Whose names should we “Write In”? Any volunteers?
ken
Bullets – I do not believe that the retirement date of the current administrator is an enlightening answer to the issues surrounding the candidacy of Mr. Manning to a high administrative position, whether temporary or assistant. Posting an assistant position and then hiring Manning would place him in line for the Administrator’s job, regardless of his qualifications or lack thereof. And then hiring a qualified, experienced administrator in a temporary capacity provides the opportunity to revisit Manning’s appointment later when the votes are there.
Neptune citizens need a professional, independent manager for our town. An Administrator lacking qualifications is bad enough in this tough economy. Appointing one with political connections would be even worse. We need and deserve the objectivity of a qualified professional.
Nicholas Williams:
Thank you for your posting. I correct my statement about not hearing from you, which was posted before reading your statement.
Getting back to the issue of voting in the primary on June 5th and meeting the needs of Ocean Grovers:
Many Grovers know and appreciate the efforts Mary Beth Jahn has shown for our community and Neptune as a whole. Dr. Brantley and Nick Williams had an opportunity to share their accomplishments and credentials at the recent OG homeowners’ meeting, but they chose to abstain following the advice of Mr. Mowczan. I know very little about either candidate and am trying to learn what they stand for.
I understand Nick Williams was recently seen in the Grove watching the Memorial Day parade. Did he talk to any Grovers? If so, did he have anything worthwhile to say that would indicate he’s a viable candidate?
Dr. Brantley and Nick Williams: Now is your opportunity to show us your worth lest we think you are empty suits. And by worth, I mean your merits as candidates, which does not include slamming the opposition.
Hey Now: I will respond to you because you asked. It was true that I was a Bd of ED member for one term during the Uniform Fiasco. Although I was in favor of it, I also wanted to continue to see what was best for the parents and not push through the policy. On the evening of the second reading to start it in February, I was the only “no” vote”. This can be verified in the minutes. I did not feel the time was right to start it in the middle of the school year and thought that September would have been a better starting point if it was going to be done at all. The vote was 5 yes, 1 no and 3 abstentions. As far as the Neptune Housing Authority is concerned, I was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in 2002 after a Commissioner resigned his position. In 2004, I was selected by my fellow Commissioners to serve as the Chairman of the Board. The Neptune Housing Authority is comprised of six complexes both with family and senior units only. There are currently 16 employees which oversee the entire operation from Administrative positions to our maintenance staff. This is quite a remarkable group because of the amount of employees as opposed to other Authorities. This past year the Neptune Housing Authority recieved a HUD score of 95 and a Section 8 score of 104 out of a possible 105. This was one of the top scores in the State. Our last 2 year audit reports showed no recommendations or findings whatsoever. After I won the nomination to run as a Democratic candidate on Saturday, my term for reappointment to the Housing Authority was discussed at the Township Committee meeting that Monday and I was not reappointed but replaced by another person. Former Police Chief Howard O’Neil was made the new Chairman. Howard served with me as my Vice Chair for 5 years. I am married and have 2 children who are attending the Neptune School system, a daughter in Shark River Hills Elementary and a son who will be entering the Neptune High School Honors Program in September. I am a retired educator and worked for the Hudson County Schools of Technology, retiiring as the Assistant Dean of Students and also worked for the New Jersey Sports Complex for 15 years as the Officer In Charge of Security before relocating to Neptune in 1991. I am currently employed part time as a Student Advisor for Waterfront College Planning. This is a specialzed program for High School students which takes them through a specified cirriculum while in high school to their college acceptances and a financial program so the parents understand the entire financial situation that they are fully aware of what will lie ahead.
I hope that this answers some of the questions that you had about me and my affiliation with the Neptune School Board and Housing Authority. Thank you for your asking about me and hope that I was able to answer some of the information you were looking for. Nick Williams, Neptune, New Jersey
OG Gee- learn the facts before you speak. The Neptune Organization has always been under the leadership of their Party Chairman. The District leaders pick their candidate and that name is forwarded to the County Chairman. It has been done this way forever. Well, because our Mayor Randy Bishop did not like the result of the election, he went over the head of the local chairman and went to Vic Scudiery. This in itself shows how he disrespected the wishes of the party and district leaders who supported him through the years. He was happy when Vic did not reverse the decision to keep Pat Monroe on the line but Ed Rielly stayed with the Democratic Organizations choice of Randy and Jim Manning. What kind of man would disregard the parties choice who has worked every election to keep him in office. Some of those elections were closer then ever. Now you tell me why we should continue to support him as our leader when he has shown no loyalty to the organization who kept him there. He lost to Tom Catley but we came out again stronger then ever and gave him his victory that he wanted so badly with his ‘best friend Jim Manning. Yes people wrote letters, signed petitions and made phone calls to keep the procedure in place. All of the other Democratic Chairs in Monmouth County are scratching there heads and wondering how Randy could have ever done this. I guess his run for Assembly was a payback to Vic who had no one to run that year.
DIstrict Leader- I’m sure I know who you are but the truth again is that ex Elected Officials were always invited to attend the Democratic Selection Process. Joe Krimko has always been there. Stop blaming Jim Moczan for everything that has gone wrong with this past election. He did not fix the election, he did not ever have any conversation with Marybeth about supporting Jim Manning for the job and he did not encourage Nick Williams to run. Nick had indicated to many of us that he would throw his hat in the ring this year after his children were a little older and he could have more time to dedicate his efforts to the Neptune Township citizens. The election process was done fair and you were there to count the votes yourself. Unfortunately for some Marybeth did not fair out to well and finished in dead last place. There were over 20 District leaders in the room who voted the way they did. I have been going to the Democratic Club meetings at the VFW for quite a few years and I can honestly say that Marybeth has not attended more then 3 meetings and only the last 2. Marybeth has not attended many of the functions such as spaghetti dinners, pancake breakfast or corn beef dinners as well. To win the support of your organization, I think the people who are always there and pitching in are the ones who care the most. Sorry if you can not understand this but it has been this way forever since the days of Ed Rielly.
Mr. Manning, maybe your Daddy should write a nasty letter to Neptune Township Committee about you not getting the Administration position, just like he wrote to the head of the Monmouth County Democratic Organization when he chose to support Mary Beth Jahn.
Cat: former elected democratic officials are invited to the meeting to select candidates. Joe Krimko and I were there. We had a voice…but no vote.
The only one I remember Jahn speaking to harshly during the blizzard was Chris Christie, and rightly so!
So let’s talk about Nick Williams then. Who is this guy? I know he got voted off the school board after one term and was complicit in The Great Uniform Fiasco that has resulted in lawsuits brought against the BOE. I know he was on the Housing Authority, but I’ll be dangled if I know what that means and what he did while there. Who is this guy and why should I consider voting for him? All I know is Jim Manning is championing him, and that Jim’s got an ax to grind, as evidenced by his missive here.
NC – Have you explained your observation to the US Marine Corps? I guess you’re not familiar with the symbolism of the bulldog. It’s actually quite complimentary – loyalty, faithfulness, and strength.
Neptune Citizen – this is not true. I asked several times previous to becoming a district leader if I could attend and observe. Mr. Mowczan always denied my requests. I guess I wasn’t cool enough?
District Leader…..that is not true….Non district leaders were not barred from attending the meetings.
Stp …..Jahn has spoken harshly to many residents, none who reside in Ocean Grove. She missed important meetings and she has walked out of several. This is not what was told to me, this is what I have witnessed.
Jahn refers to herself as a “Bulldog.” I don’t know about the rest of you but that is not a flattering statement.
Thank you Mr. Manning for that clarification. I hope that the residents of Neptune pay close attention to the truth that you have bestowed upon us. I am a democrat through and through, it is upsetting to see how 2 individuals who only reach out to each other throw dirt on fellow democrats. Mary Beth is not always in attendance at important Neptune functions and meetings and this has been going on for the past few years. I also recall during the infamous snow storm that quite a few residents were offended by the way you spoke to them. It seems to me that you are only cordial to certain residents. As a committee person you have a responsibility to treat ALL residents respectfully.
Grover: because the current BA doesn’t want to retire yet.
All of this is very confusing, and I am mystified about why Neptune cannot hire a full-time, permanent, QUALIFIED Administrator instead of fooling around with assistants and temporary appointments.
I noticed that Mr. Manning has taken up residence in Shark River Hills recently. Ms Jahn is certainly a polarizing individual, not unlike another recent Republican deputy mayor. Sometimes in order to get things done you need to kick a few bee’s nests and people will get rattled.
This letter by Jim helps clarify that this is NOT about Jahn versus Manning but its more about Jahn versus Brantley versus Williams. Neptune residents need to get out and vote next week.
I was curious about why most of the town council didn’t want to hire Mr. Manning and he has now answered that question for me. In my opinion, the town council made the right choice in not hiring this person. Reading back through the history of this topic, the slot is owned by the county and not the town democrats, so the town democrats can’t take away something they don’t own. It’s good you’re going back to school and gaining the credentials you need to qualify for a business administrator job. Maybe one day, you can get the Neptune job, but alienating the people you want to hire you will never get you the job you want. Thank you for your prior service, sir, and good luck to you in obtaining a job in your chosen field. Have a blessed day!
I don’t think the average voter cares about these personal disputes between the local politicos. All I care about is that Ms. Jahn’s job performance is a known factor: she seems to have performed her duties very well, she carries out her responsibilities with apparent transparency and honesty, and she articulately communicates with the public on important issues. She should not have been dropped from the ballot.
We’re voting for candidates to represent us on the Township Committee, not choosing sides between squabbling children in the playground.
I believe some questions raised in Jim Manning’s letter could be asked at a regularly scheduled Neptune Township Committee meeting. That is where you can ask those on the dais about Neptune issues. All five elected officials — Business Administrator, Financial Officer, Township Atty, and the Township Clerk — may give answers. Misinformation is seldom given in a public forum and silence can be so telling. Often a non-answer or evasion really answers the question. Blogfinger is wonderful but is no substitute for the facts from those making the decisions. (A tip….Any and all persons are limited to one five-minute appearance, so get all your questions out on the record before one answer uses all your time.)
Now we’re slagging on people’s family members? The Manning-Mowczan-Williams camp has gone that low? What a disgusting display this has all been by the Manning camp and their companions. As someone said above, the Democratic Executive Committee has clearly lost sight of what this is about – what’s right for Neptune.
Editorial note: This is a very hot political topic. Tempers are going to flare. That’s fine. However, we would ask everyone, as you express your views, to do so without name calling and within the bounds of civil discourse and of the rules of this website. If you’re unclear about the rules, click on our “Policies” tab at the top of the page.
This is satire, right? I mean, you guys remember this guy’s temper tantrums when he didn’t get his way when he was on the committee?
And he’s basing his lack of support on what someone writes on a PRIVATE Facebook page? Really? Where are your priorities, Jim? Are you for what’s best for Neptune or what’s best for you and your bud Williams? Because it looks like you have a load of sour grapes and a personal ax to grind.
Sooo … Apparently Jahn is actually Joseph Stalin and everyone votes as she tells them?
And If I were you, Jim, I’d be careful throwing words around like “vindictive,” especially when you tried to ramrod through a hotel tax right before Randy Bishop’s last re-election.
Jim, you are a nice guy outside of the political arena. However, there is a lot more to your side of the story. Such as when Mary Beth informed you she would not endorse you for the BA job (was this prior to the meeting on the 24th?) and what calls went out by your family to the Democratic Executive Committee for the re-election of the candidates. Also, it would be interesting to see if you really left the Township Committee because your position at the State required it due to the constraints of the Hatch Act (accepting Federal Funds) like you said; or if you were stepping down to meet the one-year “vacancy” requirement to position yourself to obtain Phil’s job in the municipality upon his retirement (which he had already postponed). When did you start and finish your CPM (which is not an accredited degree)? Do you hold a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree? If so, in what? The other 23 people who applied for the BA job do not have the political pull to topple the incumbent Democrat who publicly denounced your candidacy for one of the the highest paying municipal jobs available. Nor have their families attempted to insert their best friend into the mix to sway the vote. Politics is a dirty business, isn’t it? Especially when it doesn’t go the way you may have anticipated. I don’t put anything past anyone….just my two cents.
Yeah, why were you at that meeting, Jim? Especially when non-district leaders have been barred from attending in the past?
Mr Manning, you are not a villain. You were a pawn in a plan to divert the attention to you for what was the smoke and mirrors plan to the Neptune people. It is all black and white in your letter and I commend you for standing up and telling the truth. The man was already given the position but Marybeth still continues to use your name as the reason for not getting support. I do notice the way she and her sister do respond to the people who do not support their way of thinking. It is true that we are all entitled to our own opinion but when the truth comes out then it becomes factual and not opinion oriented. When you type “Ocean Grove” it is no error. Mr. Williams was removed from the Housing Authority the same night you were disqualified from the BA position. All I am saying is that the people who read this Blog open your eyes to this letter and read it slowly and carefully. There are no other words to say. He did not make up any thing other than quote dates, times and things that happened. Good luck in your future and I will be signing off for the last time.
